Break-in / Theft: UPDATE
First I wanted to say thanks for all the people wishing me well from my last journal. It may not bring my stuff back , but it does make me feel a little better. It's been about a week since the incident and to be honest I still feel a little bitten by what happened. I keep coming home expecting to start on a new digital painting or something only to be reminded that I no longer have a Cintiq. The other things they stole I can deal with. But I worked so hard and saved up for two years to buy that Cintiq. No matter how much time has passed , that one will cut deep.
It gets a little worse. Seems the insurance company won't cover the losses. The police have been silent, though I kinda expected that much, so I'm pretty much on my own in replacing everything . It's a little over 3500$ worth of equipment. My studio is shot. I can't do anything at home but check my god damned E mail.
My brother contacted me out of the blue to borrow about 300 bucks. I haven't heard from him for at least two years. Sure he buttered me up with friendliness at the beginning but it didn't take long for him to get to the point. I don't mind giving family money if they need it. And I did give him the money , But I just can't help but feel a little bit used .
two days later , my grandmother fell victim to a phone scam. Basically someone called her up at around three in the morning pretending to be me . He told her that I had gotten into a drunk driving accident and was in jail. He manages to convince her to send him a little over two grand to "bail" me out. If he didn't get greedy and ask for 3000 more, he probably would have gotten away with it too. My mom calls me up at 4:30 am to make sure I'm okay and that the guy's story was false. Unfortunately he had already cashed the check by the time the police got involved. I just don't know what to say. Being the responsible one in the family, I'll be sending over the money to her in order to reimburse her. It's the least I can do. She sent that money to that guy thinking it was me and one good deed definitely deserves to be repaid in kind. The money doesn't bother me as much as the anguish she must have gone through thinking I was hurt or in jail. I hope that asshole who called her rots in hell.
It's ..not as bad as it seems. And I'm not even mad or depressed. Sure, I'm not riding that wave of euphoria from before, when I landed this gig and managed to save up thousands since, But life just works like that . These three incidents may be one big blessing in disguise though. It really made me take a step back and re-evaluate my life choices. I won't bother you with the details, this journal is already too long for may tastes. But suffice to say that I'm rethinking a lot of things...
Anyways, I'm planning on opening up a go-fund me this weekend to replace my missing equipment. I don't expect to get much, But if you guys could donate anything you can to it , It would make a big difference. I'd really like to get my studio up and running again . I hate not being able to do art to relieve myself of this stress.
Stay classy guys, and thanks a bunch if you actually read through this sappy crap lol
Sorry to hear about your grandmother too... I'm so sick of scammers... I lost a lot of stuff because of a con person myself.
Either way, I really hope we can help out a little bit
Stay strong and keep letting us know how you're doing!
Also what the hell insurance company, thats the sole reason you pay insurance!
What a terrible string of luck, Show.
Set up the go-fundme. We'll help the best we can!
It took me a half and hour and a phone call from my brother who was in class at the time to convince her that he wasn't rotting in jail.
They are the worst sort of people.
I am totally down for contributing a little to a fundraiser - and I would also be willing to pay my commission in advance too if that would help.
Well if you like I'll take you to dinner to get you out of the house if that will help. And i'll contribute and spread the word on the gofundme page to help out.
I'll be more than happy to provide help in any way possible.
Was there any possible way they could have gotten personal information from it?
If so, might be a way to recover all around...I mean checks had to be mailed to somewhere...
Good luck.
seriously if the cops fuck up get an investigator on this shit. this person/persons can easily be caught.
