Summer is for Passion. Winter is for Romance
Okay, as furs we mostly know one another through the internet. While there are those of us are a little ... loose in the mental facilities, I know for a fact that a great number of us are awesome individuals. I've only met a handful here and on a few other sites that have creeped me out or generally upset me. On the internet, we are all free to be as we are inside. We have no pressure to act a certain way, only what makes US comfortable.
Rewind back a few months: I met an amazing fur who just makes my heart overflow (you have him to thank for inspiring me with all the yiff I do ^w^ ). He's invited me to spend a week or two at his place, which happens to be in the next timezone, $500 dollars in plane tickets away. Because he's so far, he's made me inform my parents so they won't worry about me. Well, I told my mom. I just kinda dropped the topic that I was gonna have a vacation all to myself. When she asked where and I responded, it was really apparent that she didn't like the idea. But I'm 21 and she really can't stop me.
But what really pissed me off was the fact that she said "You don't know him. You only know as much as he tells you." What the ever-loving flying fuck, man?! I don't think she even really understood who stupid that sounds. Using that logic, no one really know anything about anyone else, in real life or online! There are things I don't know about my siblings, cousins, aunts, uncles, parents, best friends because we don't tell each other every microscopic detail. So in real life, it's apparently fine, but add in the fact that it's being done online, and my sense of judgment gets pulled into question.
I'm not jumping into this. I did not make this decision lightly. I was wary of him like I am of anyone I meet online. I'm not stupid, and I'm not naive, despite what my parents seem to enjoy telling me. I'm acting as a responsible adult, taking a well thought about risk for the sake of fucking living.
So what the hell is with the demonizing of the internet anyway? Why is it everyone online is a pedophile/rapist/murderer whereas my 17 year old sister can make friends with a 20 year old and have a crush on him and my mom totally approves of that? Meet a person for the first time in real life: OK. Meet that same person for the first time online: YOUS GONNA GET RAPED AND KILLED!!! OH NOES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
