What Adoptables Get Your Attention?

I love breaking things up with adoptable characters now and then, but as I'm not an artist who regularly does them and is expected to, I need to draw some attention to them when I do.
I've tried various methods from outlandish designs, re-using bases, creating original images and offering uncommon animals and hybrids.
None really stand out from the other in terms of attention (maybe I'm just bad at designing things, I dunno).
What do you look for in an adoptable character? Even if you don't buy them, what draws your attention?
Is it purely the design or do you like seeing them as original images? Do you prefer cookie cut bases that can be re-used and potentially shared with others for use?
How about original species?
If I could make a poll on this site I would, but I'd love your opinions!
While I'm not taking additional commissions I may need some extra income and this is a simple solution that I can do late at night outside of my regular work hours.
For example you could make a batch of 3 or 4 with the theme of a popular TV show or a genre of music. I know Higsby does music commissions where you send him a song and your ref and he makes a portrait based on what he hears. Maybe find a popular song and design a sona based on the song
Original species, unique hybrids and uncommon animals strike me most. Most everyone can make foxes, wolves, felines. But the more lesser used animals pique my interest. Such ones being like birds, dinosaurs, otters, bears, etc.
Also, a mix of natural and unnatural colors work well. For example a natural looking bear with a splash of an unnatural color in small areas. Sometimes all unnatural works well as long as they aren't too blinding to look at.
Hope that helps out a bit ^^
Also my wife did a cub ych and it was her best seller xD just saying. :3
I pretty much go for canine/vulpine characters exclusively, but if I happen upon a non-canine, (dragon, hybrid etc) who's colour palette I particularly love, I'll definitely go for it. :) so I guess, species first, cold palette second. ;) hope that's helpful!
To a but more serious note though. You are incredibly good at drawing cute stuff, so i would recommend that, and i think you might have more luck with none hybrids honestly. As i think that people that wants hybrids tends to want their hybrids to be exactly how they want them. That is just a theory though. But yeah i personally likes canine males that are cute or looks interesting some how, fir example having an interesting color pattern/markings
Maybe my adopts should be more chibi... then at least they can be gender neutral.
I don't mind looking at them though, as often the artists I watch make hybrid, mythological or otherwise unusual ones in some way. ( Perhaps a super buff, very tall female, a demon feline, Pegasus, etc ).
I suppose it's that abnormal oddity or rarity that makes me take note.
I understand that it's a skill to be able to get them and color them for good pallets, but I am REALLY tired of seeing them.
Give me free line adopts in different poses and like so I can actually see them.....looking somewhat expression based and flowing. Like, I'm more prone to buy and adopt jumping or something than it just be like...normal looking.
Also, adopts that are more than just your generic "cat/dog/wolf/fox" or whatever is REALLY something I like.
Like, if you do a cat, let it be a big cat, like a lion, snow leopard, panther, smilidon, and so many other options.
Also, I'm prone to go towards "Monsters" then regular things. I think they are cooler.
Also, whoever says something about themed ones, I meant to add, are something that does get a lot of attention to.
