Does it post and then fail to load the OS or is it refusing to turn on at all?

Gets stuck in black loading screen. Even after some work in the bios. It did this before but removing the battery solved the problem. A while ag after oppenig PS the ps crashed and now when it boots it no longer makes the beep sound and the HHD makes no sound.

Is this a laptop or desktop?

5 year old lap top that mind you i spilled a tall glass of water about 2 years ago.

Black Screen with no post beeps after powering on usually means a memory, powersupply, or motherboard issue. Sometimes it is just connections which in the case of a desktop I would say check but a laptop is quite a different nut :( Silver lining is the harddrive and your data should be okay.

The memory you should have access too through a cover usually on the bottom for upgrading. If it does try taking it out carefully after you've static grounded yourself and checking the connection pins for any corrosion and then putting them back in (If you have more then one module) one at a time and then trying to start the laptop and see if it will post.

Just opend it up hard drive looks like its back there. Memory too. I do not know how to remove them tho.

It does look like there are some stains from kast time I splled water on it but non on the memory.

Oh boy just checked the foil covering on the back panel and is a bunch of corrosion.

Is the sticker with the make and model number on the bottom still intact? With that some information can be dug up on it.

Hardly visble. Thogh even if i order a new parts I still run the risk that the computer might still not work. Plus I dont have the tools or knowledge to pick apart this thing.

Saw the video. Was able to remove the ram. It was clean. It seems official. Not even a peep from the hard drive any more.

Would have to use a friends computer but I am sure the hard drive is dead. Also the amount of rust back there is a tell that its more than just the HDD. I dont want to order a new hardrive and still not have the thing work.

If it's old enough, the data could be recovered by replacing the circuit board on the drive with one from an identical (numbers matching) model of drive. If you have a techy person locally, it could maybe be gently cleaned and made to work again, so long as the corrosion hasn't caused any tiny components to come off the circuit board and none come loose when cleaning. I've managed to save some drives using both those methods, but every attempt is unique.

Data loss is not an issue as i make sure too store all my work on a cloud. The worst problem I have is that I have two clients that are waiting on restorations of old photos. This could prove to be a loss of income I have not seen in a while.

Ah, well at least you won't lose data! Is there a chance you could get a machine from a pawn shop? (not sure what specs are necessary for your restoration work) BTW- Is there a place to see your photo restoration work? Sounds interesting!

Dang, sorry to hear that! Computer issues are the worst for digital artists! Glad Cragger could give you some help though.

Yeah, they do wear out eventually, surprising it lasted so long after the water spill though!

Hello, Cragger sent me here, and while I really don't know either of you, you seam like a nice guy in trouble and I feel like I might be able to help. I work for a company that does refurb laptops and we have quite a few at any given time, if you could give me the specs of what you currently have (HD size, processor, memory, OS) I might be able to scare up something equivalent or better for around 100 bucks, if you want to go the replacement route.

Oh wow. I am really thankfull for that though I was just about to up date my situation. I found a pretty good desktop for a little over 400 on new egg that a familly member is pitching in to help me buy. As long as i pay em back later.
