Technology isn't perfectly, unfortunately. But you're right. It's always something breaking down in the world.

Reminds me of the time when Ontario and parts of the US experienced a widespread blackout back in 2003. Power wasn't restored until 3 days later. It all started because of a software failure.

I've gone longer days without power or light. 1 of the many hurricanes that fucked up my home island did that once or twice.

In 2012, an ice storm struck Southern Ontario, causing several trees to collapse under the weight of an inch of ice gathering on the branches, downing power lines everywhere. In some areas, it took up to two weeks to restore power. The 120 year old tree in our backyard lost a lot of limbs that day. It could have dropped a branch onto our house, but luckily it didn't. Another tree just down the street collapsed on power lines and made a spectacular light show as sparks flew, and the buildup of ice on other trees caught the light in a beautiful way. Other homes in Toronto weren't so lucky, with trees crashing through roofs and onto cars. This isn't the first time it happened either. Look up what happened in January of 1998 in Eastern Ontario.

I live in an area where hurricanes are unlikely to reach without dissipating greatly, but it can happen. Same as tornadoes. There have been reports of the twisters even in Ontario this year. Usually we experience different kinds of disastrous weather. Mostly winter related, but there are exceptions.
