Looking for those with military experience...

And those who are willing to talk about it. Mind you, if you experienced something traumatic I don't want to hear about that and I don't want to hear about your tours of duty if you can't or would not like to discuss those. Instead I'm looking for references. In some of my works combat WILL of course happen not to mention military operations.
Some of these I have more freedom with. In a story involving starships in combat, or knights, hell even androids I have a bunch of freedom and can play with details like clay but in a situation involving a variety of military personnel, military aircraft and naval vessels it's a different story. The same goes with more fictionalised versions of military contractors, which will take a bunch of influence from functioning militarises anyway.
I've got a few options, books and documentaries are two. I plan to look into some as well but I'd also like to talk with people, here things, learn things. It doesn't just need to be the United States or Canada, any country, any branch will do. I don't care if you were a chef on board a ship that's not even well known, that still counts and I'd like to hear it if you're willing to share.
If anyone is willing to provide some information for me, please comment below, with country you served(or are actively serving), branch of your nation's armed forces and entirely optional, rank. I'll try my best to get to you. c:
2 years private military contractor.
Obviously there's some things I can't talk about, but more than happy to help as a technical adviser. Hit me up.
