Jury Duty, Tragedy, and a Con
Is this the beginning?
Dear journal (you people), today I had to go to Los Angeles to do Jury service for the Federal Court. Little did I know that I would actually be on a jury. <o.O> . None-the-less, I am not complaining. I work for the state, so, I get paid as though I was at work. *thumbs up* . I look as this as being a little break from my tough job (at the mental hospital). The thing I dread is the first day back from this, as I know my "partners" are likely skipping my area that I am assigned to, so my area will be horrid.
Besides that, I discovered over the weekend that a local furry family happened to be involved in a triple homicide. Sad to say, it was a mother, step-father and a family friend (of theirs). I somewhat knew the mother, and just met the father and last seem them (along with their kids) at the annual SoCal FurBQue at Irvine Regional Park. Their eldest daughter was not at the family home, so police thought she was missing/ abducted. She eventually was found unharmed, but placed under police custody (for safety and investigation). Though the daughter is not exactly my friend, I would often jokingly call her "my biggest fan", because she would always run to me whether I was in or out of fursuit/ costume.
I can't get the image of the mother out of my head (when I saw her at the BBQ). Her, sitting on a blanket under a tree, with a quirky grin on her face, waving to me happily. She told me that her husbands bike front tire was flat, so he and the kids could not ride at the park. I lent him one of mine (that I happened to have brought with me to the park). Jokingly, I tell him "It's my sisters bike. So if you break it, I may have to kill you". Now I have a sense of regret in saying that, knowing that he was killed by someone a week later after the BBQ. Possibly(most likely) by the hands of the boyfriend of the older daughter (according to reports), and a friend of his (who both were arrested, and the daughter detained).
I hope the daughter was not involved in this horrendous crime. In my mind I want to believe it is impossible. However, I did not know the family at a personal level. So anything is possible. They were friends of friends. Acquaintances... so I do not know their life story, their involvements with people and the things they did/ do beyond the fandom. Though none-the-less, they seemed like nice people, and I sure as hell know that no matter what they did/ or did not do, they did not deserve what happened to them. I just pray for the peace of the surviving family, and that the lives of the deceased are not forgotten. I want to attend the funeral when the time comes.
To change the subject completely, I am preparing for two conventions. Comikaze and Further Confusion. At this time I am looking for roomies for Comikaze, and a room for FC.
Comikaze: Comic convention hosted by Stan Lee (creator of Spider-Man, Iron Man, The Hulk, etc).
Los Angeles Convention Center
October 27th- 30th
* I will be at the con Oct 28th through the 30th, and staying at the hotel Sunday night, to go to the West Hollywood parade on Monday, Oct 31st afternoon 'til 10 PM.
- I am staying at the Ritz Milner hotel. Which has "free breakfast" and a parking structure next to it that charges about $45 for three nights.
So far I
,
shinfox, his brother,
gdzeek,
derricksoderberg are in the room.
At this time, it appears I will be carpooling with
shinfox . We both are looking for a hotel room to share with others. Hopefully I can find a room before the end of this year. It is coming up fast >.o . I also plan on bringing snacks to share with others in the room. So when you get the fox (me), you get the box (food I bring to share).
So now I leave you with some moving pictures and sounds for your ears:
Why I won't cook things that are still alive.
Caterpillars are cute killers.
I heard this song while watching THE CIRCUS of WONDERS at Knotts Berry Farm theme park. It is wow.
These days, I am on stranger tides >_>.

Jury Duty has actually been fun . The only thing is that there have been times where I was falling asleep in the court room. X3
I want to go to the Halloween parade... but it had to fall on a Monday this year <T.T> .
Hang out after the con? I might have to find a ride back then, cause I can't request too many days off from work.
