A Quick History Lesson

Someone asked me about this in a discord channel so I figured I might as well save it and transpose it here.
In the fantasy world setting I have in my head there is a group of druids, wizards, and clerics called the Burngrove Circle. They are intent on dominating their region of the world, but are attempting to be indirect about it, stirring up trouble in subtle ways throughout the land. Touching off conflicts between neighboring kingdoms etc. All while building an army of creatures that don't need to sleep. Which is to say moss dogs.
There are three different 'generations' of moss dogs, the first are feral, the size of a normal dog, fast, fierce and trained like hunting hounds.
The second generation are pretty much akin to werewolves, huge hulking almost humanoid beasts of bulging muscles and wild strength. Juggernauts. Great weapons, but lacking any real sense of self preservation or cunning.
The third generation is what Salix is a part of, anthro plant dogs that can think and talk and interact and plan. Smart enough to revolt if they ever had a reason to, so the Circle kept a tight leash on them and bound them beneath some built in restraints. Like, despite being a plant and being able to survive on sunlight and water their sentience and sense of self is powered by energy gained from eating meat. So they are FORCED to be carnivorous or they go mindless eventually.
Salix of course 'escaped' which in my head canon of that world's story line was intentional, letting this one rogue moss dog start wandering the world, distracting people and causing all sorts of chaos wherever he goes. Which, just sorta knowing his personality one can see how that might happen.
