There were three pregnant ladies...One girl said that she was on the bottom and so it was going to be a boy. One girl said she was on top, so it was going to be a girl. The other girl started crying and said..."PUPPY!!!"

Congratulations on your new ward. I have trained literally hundreds of dogs. Let me know if you need any training tips. It would help if I knew what breed it was or if it is a mix, what kind of mix if you can tell. If you cannot tell, post some pics and I will make my best guess for you.

It's most likely something to do with kelpie and border collie breeds. It's a sheep dog after all. I have no experience training dogs but my partner does so I think he'll be doing most of the education.

Ok. If your partner needs any help, let me know. My first take on the animal is that he will most likely be a very high energy dog and love toys more than treats for training. You need to watch his temperament and let me know how he acts so that you can adjust his training. Some animals are "resource guarders" for example. He will need also probably need some king of "job" or he will go stir crazy. It's a BC (Border Collie) thing. I helped the American Kennel Club standardize their Canine Good Citizenship test and have put multiple obedience titles and agility titles on dogs. I am a four time past president of a Hundred and fifty member dog obedience club, and am sometimes called upon as an expert witness in dog bite cases (defending the dog). I haven't been as active in the past couple of years though as I am sans dog right now and am working my buns off in my print shop.

Oh. If you decide to train him in sheep, I don't have experience in that. I have several friends who trial stock dogs though. Earlier this year I printed the show books for the Aussie Nationals that was held in Tennessee.

She's already been around sheep and my partner shears them so she'll be going to work with him often (if we keep her). They'll train her for all that, they're very experienced. We have infinite land for her to exercise on and I'll be looking into toys and treats tomorrow. She's already claimed one of my stress balls. At this stage we just need to work on basic commands (she already sits occasionally when told) and getting her to respond to her new name.

If those are her breed mixes, she is going to be very smart. You need to be consistent and firm. She will learn quickly, but Kelpies are known for being kind of manipulative. Get her a Kong toy or a slew of spent tennis balls. It looks like she is going to have a great home. Let me know if you get stuck on anything. I use the "praise reward" method. You don't over react to bad stuff, but really praise the good.
