even though they traditionally aren't good egg layers, I'd love to have one just to cuddle. ;~;
And I already have a small flock of 10, so she wouldn't be alone.
oh temptation....
someone please tell me no! OTL

I may do some sneaky googling and see if any silkies need rescuing nearby. >_>
BUT both us and them were happy they can be taken care of now. They were a bit traumatized at first since they nearly died in their original coop and barely managed to stay above the water on their highest perches. Now they're as happy as can be.
really sweet and friendly!
like you mentioned, def not a stronger layer tho. when she does lay the eggs are tiny lil things
I have always wanted a silkie ever since I knew about them. @_@ The fact that they are predispositioned to be docile is even better. Most of my girls don't mind being touched/held and I really don't have to chase them down if they need to be looked at.
How old is your silkie? And/or how long have you had it? :o
This one actually hatched some of our 'newest' buffs a year or so ago! she was a happy momma
I think she's about 3?? our oldest hen is 6/7 so i think that's right. We've had her since she was old enough to be taken home from the farm we frequent, so very young!
There are three smaller roosts, two in opposite corners of their pen (roughly 8" off the ground, a simple hop up} and then another that overlooks the tiny run that connects to their egg box.
Though improvements are planned overall for the entire coop. It'll need to be expanded come spring.
Also, silly question; Because chickens are so nosy and inquisitive, do you have any experience with giving them toys? Something safe, maybe meant for parrots? I have a body mirror in their pen and they ADORE looking at themselves and each others' reflections. I could watch them all day, especially when they check behind the mirror to see if a chicken is there because of their reflection. :'D
I'd love to give them more to play with/explore since I think scratching around and looking in a mirror between being fed and held and talked to can only be so amusing.
