After 3 years of semi-decent service, my laptop finally died last night (after having a lot of increasing problems over the past couple of months)
I've bought a cheap new one but unfortunately I cannot retrieve any of the files on the dead one, which included all the progress i had made on big stories over the past several months in some cases.
So, yeah, if you already thought my work rate was slow as fuck, it's now become a lot worse :D

May I suggest using something like Dropbox or hubiC next time so that your files get also stored online?
Have you tried taking the dead laptop to a computer place to extract things from the Hard Drive? I think there may be a way to get the items without doing it the usual way involving the hard drive itself.
