Guys.

Guys. I try to keep this a fun escape from the world's troubles. But, for real: you should go vote.
Don't surrender to the comforting cynicism of conspiracy theory. Yes, it's emotionally safer to claim all politicians are uniformly bad—believe me, I know. But not voting surrenders your power. Even Bernie Sanders wants you to vote and he has little to personally gain from it—and not for a third party.
Don't just say it doesn't matter who's in charge. Because even if you are 100% protected from the damage cruel bigots with near-unlimited power can do, lots of us aren't. Women, LGBT folks, people of color, the 99% of us who aren't millionaires—we are the ones at risk when vindictive bullies rule. I want the world to look more like the furry fandom: a place where diversity is celebrated and people can be whatever they want to be. Straight-up Zootopia stuff here, folks.
Don't listen when they tell you your vote won't count. Even in states where the presidential election isn't close, many lower offices will be—any many of these have a far more direct impact on your life. I live in North Dakota, a state that wouldn't know a swing if you hit it with a jazz hall, and I'm literally leaving to vote as soon as I submit this journal. Your voice matters.
Vote.
To my fans in other countries: we're doing our best not to mess up the world here. It's for your sake as well as ours that I'm posting this one serious journal. Breathe deep. Seek peace. Fly high. Be bold.
Cuteness and furry porn will resume tomorrow. Thank you. *hugs*

Today, as millions of citizens wake up dread in the pit of their stomachs at the election results, I hope our whole nation learns empathy for women, minorities, and anyone else who lives in fear that their basic rights won't be respected. Because many of those people feel this feeling every day.
That is what I choose to learn from today.
As for you, data artist, here is some quite interesting info about last night: https://twitter.com/EByard/status/7.....17753749729280
Don't lose hope. They cannot hold back the tide forever.
When things like this are possible, we no longer have the luxury of being too cool for politics.
You too.
