To everyone who has an opinion on the election
9 years ago
Sup everyone, I figure I have seen enough of these today I might as well add my voice to this.
First off to my fellow Americans who voted Democrat. Come here, I know you guys need a hug. *offers a warm hug* Many of you did what you could to get your candidate elected and she did not win. Regardless of my feelings for her, I know you worked hard, tried to get the message you wanted across and had a vision of the future you now feel is threatened.
Second to my fellow Americans who voted Republican. Come on over here as well guys, here is your victory high five *offers high five* you guys also worked hard, hit the trail, got the message out and mobilized for a stunning election that was something else to watch.
Now to both groups *slaps you both on the head* Stop crying about losing, and stop gloating about winning. Votes are in, the choice is made and it is time to come together as a country. Trump is all of our president now. So we need to do what we can to both support him as the leader of the free world, be that with prayer, writing him letters, calling and writing our representatives, working on your local level with your local government to make things happen. Much like Obama before hand he just stepped into a job that I doubt anyone no matter their experience is prepared for. Pray he surrounds himself with good people that will give him solid advice to help all Americans.
For those claiming gloom an doom. Trump reached out in his victory speech saying he is a president for Republicans, Democrats, and Independents. Now we have to hold him to it. Just because a person is elected doesn't mean he is just beholden to those who voted him or her in. They are there to represent everyone because they are working to get re-elected so they want to win the votes they got, as well as those they did not.
So with that being said, this isn't the end of the world, this isn't the start of WW3. This is just another election and much like when Obama was elected it is just the other half of the country that is going insane. Remember guys we are all Americans, we are one country and now we need to come together to heal wounds, remember we are friends, neighbors, coworkers, and just people.
So please, everyone grab your towels and STAY CALM!

And thank you sir.
Ssssnek for World Leader!
mama needs some... attention
..oh, wait, we were talking about politics
As for politics, we can start the healing with each other first.
hah! if i pretend i need healing, will you go deeper?
..activity x)
Elections are usually divisive n emotions run high when winners are decided.
The important thing is carrying on again together... rather than forever playing politics. Or nothing will ever get done.
Regardless of whos in charge.
WE'RE ALL GONNA DIEEEEE!!!!!!!!!
*Run around flailing *
REPENT!!!
WTF were the Democrats thinking? Did they really think people wouldn't be able to see through Hillary and recognize here as the viper she really is?
Anyways, *hugs* lets try and make the best out of the next 4 years. I mean the worst that could happen is Fallout! I so wanna get a pip boy!
Yeah Bernie got screwed bad and I know several republicans who would have voted for him so the DNC screwed themselves there.
I am wrong for trying to be optimistic and telling folks to try and relax a bit and to hold the new guy accountable as he is president of all Americans not just the ones who voted for him?
As for leader of the free world, that is sort of a title that comes with being the US President. Sort of agreed upon by the media and a whole lot else.
As for Nobody wanting Hitler 2 or WW3, you are quite right. But last I checked we didn't elect a clone of Hitler. We elected Donald Trump. Now will he do good, no idea, I hope so. Will he do bad, maybe but again I hope not. This is a call to come together. A call echoed by Donald Trump himself in his victory speech.
I would recommend watching this https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Fld9B48DUkc it is his first 100 days speech. He actually has a few good ideas in here.
But anyways. Thanks for you comment. I do hope you are wrong about Trump and I hope he winds up being a great president, much like I hoped Obama would be one. So cheers and come here, I think you need a hug from an American who cares. *offers hug*
I have friends who could very well be deported if Donald Trump follows through on his longstanding promises on matters related to immigration, I have numerous female friends and a significant other who would all be affected if either Donald Trump, or more likely, his running mate, Mike Pence, make good on their numerous promises to criminalize and restrict abortion and defund Planned Parenthood. Mike Pence as Governor of Indiana actually established a record of doing exactly that and there is nothing to suggest that he would not champion the same sorts of policies as Vice-President. What about my other numerous friends regardless of ethnicity, gender, or sexual orientation that are covered by the Affordable Care Act which Congressional leaders and Trump himself has promised to repeal, and which they have the votes to do if it comes to it? I am covered under my parents' insurance plan because of the ACA and its repeal would render me uninsured, the same would occur to all of my friends who are in the same circumstances.
The part of the country I live in has a large Muslim-American population, can anyone really, realistically say that their lives and communities are not going to be affected by this? By the inauguration of a President who has openly called for a shutdown of Muslim immigration to the United States, whose running mate passed a bill that banned Syrian refugees from coming to Indiana solely because of the fact that they were Syrian? My losing ACA coverage would be troubling, but that's getting off easy. I'm not in a position where I fear for my future in this country the way many minority communities do.
So no, although I of course accept the democratic process, I am not going to simply idly follow along with calls for national unity if the price for that is an extremist agenda being implemented in national politics. The law of the land makes Donald Trump my President, but I will not lay down and accept that idly.
I am disappointed and angry at the outcome of the election, but I have every intention of using these sentiments productively. I'm not going to go out and start conflicts, I'm going to take action to make sure politicians who don't support the policies espoused by Donald Trump get elected to office or keep their current seats in the House or Senate.
If this election has given you the spark to go out and work with your local governments then by all means do it. I in fact said as much in the journal. Please write to your representatives and congress. Let them know your position and how you feel. Get involved at every level. I just ask that the discourse is peaceful and at the end of it, you don't view the other side as evil, or monsters, or literally the new Hitler. That kind of logic and rhetoric is not helpful.
We as a country need to come together, have civil discourse, a good heathy debate, and learn to work together because our nation is founded on compromise and that is our strength.
I ask you pray for Trump and those he is putting around him. Pray they will have wisdom and compassion. Pray for those opposing him that they will do so out of good intentions and not for political theater and their own self interest.
My call here was not universal support of Donald Trump, but a supporting of the democratic process and supporting of your fellow Americans. We are in this together and we have to work together to make a brighter future. The American people sent a message of we are sick of being ignored and lied to I think and we need to hold Washington's feet to the fire for this one. Trump's as well. Just can we keep it mostly civil and not burn stuff down and beat each other up?
I don't intend to demonize anyone. I will hold people accountable for their own stated beliefs and positions, especially if these beliefs happen to be hostile to other people, but remaining calm is a skill of mine.
And believe me, I was a history major in college and hold it as one of the two parts of my degree, so I'm very wary of any comparisons to the Nazis which people are too ready to make in US politics. I can certainly do as you say for the Republican Party as a whole, which I do hold and always have held to still have many good people within it. I cannot in good conscience do the same for Donald Trump or Mike Pence. Their election is a setback to this nation and they are an enemy to my beliefs and to those I hold dear. But the Lord says we must love our enemies, so I will try, at least to do that.
I will as you say, pray for kindness and compassion in Trump and those who share in his government. Though I fear it will be in vain, all the same, I will try.
And hold the phone, I thought you liked it when people beat each other up?
I am glad to hear that and I agree with you. There is no reason to find the other side evil but you can hold people accountable for their choices and views and we should do that with Trump and Pence.
I agree, both parties have amazing people in them and to quote Regan here for a moment, there is so much that they don't know. I think falls on both parties. I believe that both have great points with supporting the poor, helping people out, and a rising tide raises all ships. Now if only both sides could calm down enough to find the good in the other then we might, just might have a system that works again.
Thank you for offering up your prayers. Hopefully it will do good. As my dad always said, he didn't always like the President of the USA, however the position alone deserves a certain amount of respect and you should always, always pray that they make the best decisions for the country.
As for the phone *looks at it* Well fuck yeah I love it when folks fight. However those fights are a different kind. When I fight it is for pride, putting my masculinity on the line, and for claiming the right to breed the loser silly. Politics deals with more than just me and my opponent. So we got to be a lot nicer. Now you want to burn off of frustration, anger, and excess energy. Well we can slip into the ring, work it all out and like I told Sober engage in some healing of the soul with a series of hard, rough, sweaty thrusts of body against body, once we figure out who is on top of course.
Thank you for your civility and common sense. *salutes*
Sometimes, people really are just racist.
If you're looking for a centrist Dem, at least go with Biden. He's an idiot but doesn't appear to be treasonous.
