The Election

Most pundits and analysts were wrong. Not necessarily about the popular vote, but about the electoral college. Rural states and bigots won out, giving us our President-Elect - a monument to all our sins.
Maybe he'll actually pivot into a decent politician, but if nothing else take comfort that all these things we worry about him doing have happened before. LBJ, Clinton, and Kennedy were all sexual assaulters in one way or another, Nixon was a vengeful and petty man who used his political power to hurt his rivals, Reagan tanked the economy by favoring the rich; it's all been done, albeit not all by one person before.
Anyway, the real vote happens in December when the Electoral College actually vote. Yeah, America is weird about this stuff. Anyway, there's a petition to ask the Electors to follow the will of the people and go with the popular vote rather than vote as the electoral maps request. I'd suggest you sign if you're not happy with this week's results.

This is the last political thing I'm posting. Then it's back to being sexy, I promise.

I think we might be ok, we just need to work hard to keep him in check for the next few years. I know it's rough for a lot of folks out there right now though *hugs*
You, we need to write our congressmen frequently to make sure they oppose the damaging things Trump tries to do. And since the GOP have the majority in the House and Senate, AND control the White House, that means that ANYTHING bad between now and the midterms in 2018 is ALL THEIR FAULT!
Keep the GOP feet to the fire, and remember, GOTV: Get Out The Vote. Not just in the midterms, but in the local elections too, if local is done on an odd numbered year. Aside from the odd orange fluke, the Presidential candidates come from a pool of politicians who have 'done well' in state positions or Congress, and that pool comes from a pool that has 'done well' in City positions. So vet out and vote for good Mayors, Comptrolers, Treasurers, Water Reclamation Chiefs, Dog Catchers, etc. because it's OUR job to find the right people for those jobs, and then to start training them to be a 'good' Civil Servant who listens to the people, instead of these overblown, self-important idiots.
(Thought I was going to end with a 'Feel the Bern' line? Not even Sanders is using that one anymore.)
That's why he's so scary.
We know drinking bleach is bad, it's been done before.
We know drinking ammonia is bad, it's been done before.
But we've never seen anyone drink a bleach-ammonia cocktail before. (Mainly because mixing bleach and ammonia will kill anyone in the room.)
However bad he is, the fact he got so much support is also an indictment of the current political landscape in general. Imagine the regular folks who are stuck in places where the only good jobs were protected by the unions before Reagan gutted the unions' ability to negotiate. Imagine the factory workers who lost their jobs when their companies went overseas and they didn't have the job skills to try another career. The normal politicians on both sides made overtures about helping the working classses, but large-scale relief never came. A lot of them don't like the scandals he's constantly surrounded with, so many wouldn't openly admit their support - that's why advance polling showed Hillary ahead. But someone with no prospects who is sure that another politician would just ignore them would be willing to overlook pretty much any flaw if it meant even a chance that their lives would get better.
So yeah, I hate the guy - his rage issues, his treatment of minorities and disabled people, his choice of running mate, his attempts to court votes from hate groups, his manipulation of the poor and uneducated - all of it. But I understand why people who aren't bigots voted for him. I don't blame them for how they feel. I'm still standing up and fighting, I'll still oppose everything he does that feels like he wants to roll back social progress. But I'm not angry anymore - I'm just filled with determination.
Remember:
* Feet to the fire.
* All the GOP's fault.
* Get Out The Vote!
