My cost is currently a penny a word or $30 for a standard short story. The penny per word establishes the minimum word count needed for the story being told. At my typing speed it averages a bit cheaper to do the flat 30 as you end up getting a bit more out of it where as the oenny a word lets you know the minimum you'll get for certain.
