No, the new computer is not up and running. Honestly, almost completely due to basic laziness. I've decided not to keep on waving a chicken over the original mobo to see what's wrong.
And hey, 1TB NVMe M2.
And a caveat about ASRock: ASRock is, near as I can tell, the only maker of hi-end mobos that has SATA3 M2 slots. So if you get a SATA3 M2 SSD and you want to give ASRock "The Bird" and go with another company, you're going to have to eat the cost of that SSD. Luckily, the new board has 2 M2 slots so I can still use the one I have.
Next goal, get this stupid computer up and running before my current Avira license runs out.
