So System Restore and/or backup software?
I used to use the system restore for back up, until notice that Samsung doesn't like that.
Currrently I do use a could back up service but that is not a back up image.
So anyone have any suggestion on what would be a good back up software?

I've used Acronis True Image for years and largely been happy with them

I tend to make a clone of my hard drive with Clonezilla, then I have a script I use to copy data off on a regular basis, which won't help you at all most likely because it is a really budget and cut down solution, but it works for me.

seagate is a good brand imo. they do everything from usb flash drives to 3+terabyte hard drives.

I think you want to migration your partition that Windows OS installed from old 1TB HDD to new 500GB SSD, disk (partition) clone to smaller one is possible but a bit tricky, basically you have to shrink it first before clone. The Gparted and Clonezilla can do the tricks.
