I have a very... interesting perspective on Patreon.

I have never supported a patreon, not because I don't like artists who do them, but because I simply don't have the money to spend monthly on an artist.

Don't get me wrong: I'd love to support every single one of the artists I follow! I believe it's awesome for people to pursue their dreams and to make a living off what they love doing. But I know I'm not alone when I say that money is just getting too tight to support anyone, especially without a job to really support myself at this point. Furthermore, there are people in this same position who already support one, two, or even more artists.

And thus my fundamental problem with Patreon: It's really a first-come-first-serve for a lot of artists. The earliest people to jump on the bandwagon get the most subscribers. Then the second person comes in, and about half of the people are able to help support both at the same time. It just keeps hemorrhaging the total amount of people who are able to support Patreons. Especially in a fetish community, where the total pool of people is limited. For example, if you're only really known for drawing AB/DL art, then your only potential Patreon subs are the AB/DL watchers. However, there's only so many AB/DL watchers out there, most of which already support a Patreon or two.

Some people do indeed stop supporting Patreons, but at this point it seems like everyone already has multiple people they're supporting. If someone does decide to quit following someone, there are so many others out there that it seems like a gamble to hope they're willing to throw that money your way (or to any other Patreon).

I wouldn't discourage you from doing it, and I certainly don't think it's "wrong" in any way! If someone doesn't feel like supporting your Patreon, they're not forced to. It's entirely up to the watchers. But I do think it's a little bit of a flawed system, and I don't know if it'll be providing you the income you might need it to. It just doesn't seem reliable to me.
