So as I keep reminding everyone, ConFurgence is just around the corner. And recently I've been playing with traditional art and animal portraits. 

At conventions I really enjoy being able to sell original images. I love how people seem to react knowing they're getting something one of a kind and it will give me something to work on this convention as I won't be doing table tops (absolutely no time if I actually want to enjoy myself and attend some panels for once.) However there's one draw back. I'm no photographer, and finding quality images of wild animals and pets without stepping on a professional photographer's copyrighted toes is difficult. So I'd like to make a request of anyone who's willing to help. 



If you have any clear, well lit images of animals (preferably close up face images) and you are willing to give me permission to use them in my artwork (that artwork being heavily referenced from the image but entirely hand drawn) and sold as originals (or used for a future portfolio), I ask that you send them my way. I don't mind if they're pets or wild animals (although some wildlife would be awesome), and the background of the image doesn't matter so long as the animal is clear. I obviously can't guarantee I'll use all or even most of what is potentially offered to me, I am just hoping for a safe and permitted stock of references for my work. 



Finally, just so you all know. These will be for sale purposes and also may not all be posted online. If you do decide to send me a personal pet photo or anything like that, I won't be setting aside the image for you. If you do want a pet portrait or an original based on a photo you own please hold onto that image and talk to me when I open commissions next year. And if you want to send me photos and commission something, know that I don't mind drawing the same animal/pet twice, but I won't draw from the same photo twice. So hold onto your bests if that's the case.





Thank you in advance to anyone who wants to give me permission to reference their photography. How you get those images to me is up to you, note, email etc. I'll keep them safe on my computer for future use. 



EDIT: This has come up already. For small animals/birds etc, should you want to throw them my way, of course full body shots are fine. An A4 image of a wren head would just be weird.

There's some gorgeous stuff here. I may well lose half my yellow markers if I tackle some of these lions, the colours are so bold and it's exactly what I love to work with.

I would for commissions purposes but it's a bit beyond my field of interest for personal drawings. It is also actually one of the few things I actually have decent photos of that I took. Melbourne Zoo is good for that :3

If you can use some equine refs, I can take some face pictures and more next time I'm out at the barn. Between my coworkers and the boarder, they have an assortment of equines, and different breeds/face shapes.

Oh my god you have good photos of those tigers. I can NEVER get a good photo of the Melbourne Zoo tigers or the snow leopards.
Hehe I have photos of nearly all the same animals but these are so much better than my collection. Thank you so much.

Haha the trick was to show up with a giant zoom lens I could barely carry =D didn't have that for the other zoos but I think there were still some good ones in Berlin just because of how close you can get to the animals, that zoo is incredible!

Oh many more of them are, I'm just really picky about what I use at the moment because I'm actually using my phone to view these when I draw so they have to be really clear with obvious details cause it's a tiny screen.
When I start doing full body ones I'll be revisiting your gallery cause there are many more I'd love to steal.
