How I view 2016
Recently Google released their annual Year in Search Video, the last couple of Year in Search videos were happy and more energetic. But this year's came as a surprise to me, it was more somber, it was quieter; perhaps to reflect how this year for many of us was a dark and gloomy year. Multiple terror attacks like the ones in France, Belgium, and Orlando, multiple celebrity deaths like Gene Wilder, Muhammed Ali, David Bowie, and Prince. But looking back at the video it got me thinking back about the year nearly gone by us in what seems like an instant. Even though this year was full of tragedy and misfortune there were many instances of triumph and accomplishment both big and small. I'd like to list off some of those things because we've already heard about all the misfortune, I think it's time to talk about the accomplishments of 2016.
-The first probe to re-enter orbit around Jupiter since the Galileo probe in the 1990s, named Juno, successful entered orbit on July 4th, 2016.
-Hamilton was a huge success.
-The Chicago Cubs finally broke their 108 year old dry spell to finally win the World Series
-Scott Kelly successfully returned to Earth after nearly a full year aboard the International Space Station
-SpaceX successfully landed it's first stage onto a barge in the Ocean
-The 2016 Rio Olympics
Through adversity this year, people showed that hate will not triumph over love each other, coming together and helping others in their time of need. Example of this was after the Orlando Pulse shooting people lined up around the block of blood donation centers ready to donate. People coming together to show support for Victims of Nice, France and Brussels, Belgium after unprovoked terror attacks showed everyone we will not submit to hate and bigotry.
2016 has been a roller coaster to say the least. But as we head towards 2017, the best thing we can do is stand together, fight for what you believe in, tackle each day as the come, and most importantly, just love each other, Charlie Chaplin said it best: "You have the love of humanity in your hearts, you don't hate, only the unloved hate, the unloved and the unnatural"
Merry Christmas, Happy Holidays, and Happy New Year everyone.
