Monsters

Im sure it is no secret I am a bit of a monster junkie. Love new and interesting enemies. In fact I love to draw and document them in books too. This is part of the reason I love games like, Warhammer series, Skies of Arcadia, Etherlords 2 and other games that really give each species or creature attention and detail. I think we can all say we have seen the dime a dozen Generic spiders, skeletons, zombies and no effort needed enemies before. In fact this might be partly where there is a large group of people who are tired of zombie games, cause there is next to no difference. Shoot em in the head, its a walking corpse, it wants brains. It takes a real special game to make something that isnt as forgettable as the last game you played.
What are some of your favorite examples of this? Any sleeper games or underrated game with fantastic monsters in it? What was so unique or different about them? Do just a few stick out or a whole bunch?

PS1 Koudelka started the eldritch horror giving us PS2 Shadow hearts, Shadowhearts: Covenant and ShadowHearts: From the new World
The monsters are pretty lovecraftian and in the last game of the series its outright Shub niggorath and the deep one as bosses, while the ones are more demons from chinese and christian lore. The main character of the Shadow hearts series even transform themself in monsters (which got more interesting in covenant. Koudelkka is more of a witch though.
