Thank you.. what's done is done and now he has to do physical/speech therapy. But, the very thing he never wanted his whole life is something he's basically been asking for with the way he took care of himself. Never bothered to lose weight, ate shit food all the time, never exercised -- all with warnings saying he WILL die if he doesn't fix it. With blood pressure so high, he's given meds that would make an elephant collapse to control it. It's absolutely ridiculous, selfish, and now that this has happened, he will either continue to do nothing or, maybe by some miracle, see the damage his irresponsibility has done and the burden it has put on all of us, and get himself in shape once he's able. He has no real choice as long as he is in the hospital. It's when he gets out is gonna be when I see if he's changed. Or cares.

I feel for you, my own father had a stroke 10 years ago and never recovered. I wish you strength and luck.

I'm so sorry. I know that had to be devastating to never recover. My dad is fortunately recovering, he is already getting his speech back (slurred, but can speak fairly clearly with effort/focus, a few words at a time), and he has some movement back in his affected side, slight finger bending and leg raising. I anticipate it won't take him long to recover fairly well, even if he has to use a walker and/or cane.
My hope is he takes this as a lesson, since he was just in that toxic mindset of "it will never happen to me"... and then it does, and it turns everybody's lives upside down, not just his.

We've never had the best relationship (he used to have anger issues, which meant a very anxious childhood) but I don't hate the man. It's just a little concerning when it's the child that has to tell the parent to "grow up".
