My roomie bought me some kahlua for the new years countdown, so now for the fun journal about all the sweetness in my life!
So, I'm 26, I'm living in my first apartment, the last two years have had... a lot of upheaval and change in my social life. I really didn't expect anything for Christmas. I gave what I could, but my roomate and I aren't exactly well off and she just returned from her honeymoon with the hubby. I bought myself one present so I'd have something to go "hurr hurr" at on the 25th: an order of aquarium plants that came with a free piece of driftwood. They were all on sale, and the tiger lotus bulbs I'd been drooling over for months were $4, when they're usually $8 each anywhere. I've been wanting the driftwood. It was a good time.
So my order comes in, and I'm planting everything, and I get messages from two friends in different parts of the country to check the mail. I was SPOILT this year you guys. One of them sent me 2 coffee mugs for my addict ass--one a replacement for a mug my friend had broken (it had been a gift from her to begin with, so I'd been sad), and one with this gorgeous photo of jellyfish on it that she'd taken herself. She also sent me chocolate, tea, and a ballpoint pen with Kylo Ren on it. Damn I was flattered. (By the way, said friend who'd broken it bought me a really cute mug to make up for it... lmao I have so many I'm a coffee mug hoarder)
Then I get the second package, and my other friend had just... stealth gone through my amazon wishlist without telling me. He bought me an aquarium light you guys. Holy shit. And some ink refills for one of the pens that got stolen a few days later LMAO but I'll be set on refills for a good time once the replacement comes in. But you guys... An aquarium light.
If you don't know me, then you need to know I fucking love my aquariums. I have five betta fish and as many nerite snails, and a jack ton of plants, and even some fish bowls with plants and marimo balls in them. This is my hobby, I do this to escape, I look at them when I'm upset. It's something I feel like I'm good at even when I'm bad at other things. I almost cried over that aquarium light you guys.
And in other good aqua nerd related news, I took a look inside my smallest fishbowl the other day and found all sorts of shit. The duckweed I salvaged from my plants order is growing and I'm crossing my fingers it'll grow enough for me to transfer into my tanks, there's like... daphnia or something in there, and some of the fairy shrimp (think freshwater sea monkeys) are almost adults! I thought they'd all died off, but there's some adolescents and even a handful of late stage nauplii. This makes me way happier than it should omg.
If any of my followers are betta/freshwater plant nerds like me plz tell! I love this shit <3
