Manga Recommendation?
General
Hello everyone!
I'm working to finish up my to-do list as usual
currently helping out my roommate with art for their uni game design project, so that takes up a lot of time.
I honestly can't predict at what time I'll be done with the to-do list entirely, as I've tried to do so many times in the past, ad well...now I'm still working on it haha..."
But on the few occasions where I can't really work on those projects (work break, trainrides, waiting on public transport, etc), I tend to read manga.
Only problem is, that I never had a lot of manga on my plan-to-read list as it were
I'm good of keeping track of new anime releases, not so with manga, I'm afraid
And I dropped quite a few of them early on because I ended up not liking them all too much.
So now I'm asking you guys wether you'd have any recommendations?
m
In return, I can recommend (in no specific order):
◊ Are You Alice?
◊ Magi
◊ Pokémon Special
◊ SQ: Begin W/Your Name!
◊ Yakusoku no Neverland
◊ Hanshin
◊ Ludwig Kakumei
Think that's about enough haha
I'd really appreciate some recommendations~
Thank you!

truely a great manga!
As for Ranma 1/2, that's a good idea!
I remember liking the anime a lot when I was a kid, but I tended to miss a lot of episodes because I was still in school/on my way home when they aired haha...
Thank you, I'll definitely check out Ranma 1/2's manga!
Is it a lot like the anime though? (I know some anime are rather different compared to their manga)
Because I watched the first season of the Anime entirely, but while I quite liked it at first, I don't think I do enough to continue on with the second season ;w;"
to continue with it if you didn't enjoy the anime all that much. S1 is such a
small potion of the manga though. ovo"
It's super weird but in a good way and has some really interesting mini stories that I often go back to read over. The style is really differen't compared to most manga which is a plus. ^^
Not sure yet, but we'll see
As for Nickelodeon, I'll make sure to check out!
Haven't heard of it yet
Thanks for the recommendation~
But yeah, those are a few that I've really enjoyed!!
sorry, so many reqs. I am a massive dork
I was hoping to collect a lot of recommendations, so that I'd be set for a while~
I don't mind horror, though I'm usually a scaredy cat (can't watch horror movies for the life of me), I have to admit, I have yet to find a horror manga that's good haha..."
I 'm pretty sure I haven't heard of most of your recommended manga
'cept for Fuan no Tane which my roommate used to own, but that was kinda...boring to me xD"
20th Century Boys is actually manga that I recently added to my 'plan-to-watch' list!
I also saw the first episode from Naoki Urasawa's Master Keaton, but since my file of it bugged out like crazy, I didn't really get too much into it haha, though I'll gladly look at the manga to it!
I recommendation from the online service I read at haha
as for Monster, I watched the Anime a couple of years ago, and yes, it's so awesome! One of my favorites <3333
I plan on reading the manga to it as well, but I wanted to wait a bit, because I still remember the storyline a little too well to go through the story again haha...
Anyway, I added them all to my plan-to-watch list and will surely check 'em out~
Thank you very much for your recommendations!
~Saiyuki, Saiyuki: Reload, Saiyuki: Reload Blast, Saiyuki: Gaiden
~Wild Adapter
~Busgamer (is a one-shot)
~DOGS: Bullets & Carnage
~Judge
~Doubt
~Secret
~Magical Girl Apocalypse
I've actually been meaning to read Saiyuki, Wild Adapter, Busgamer and DOGS: Bullets & Carnage
As for Doubt, I've actually read this one, but I didn't like it all that much, so I didn't go on to read Judge and/or Secret...
I've never head of Magical Girl Apocalypse, but I'll gladly check it out!
Thank you very much!
Personally all of Minekura Kazuya's work is really good. (saiyuki, busgamer, wild adapter). I know Stigma by her is good but its hella hard to find a traslation for it.
Magical Girl Apocalypse is hella intense. When i saw the title i was like this is gonna be crappy, then i read 1 volume and was sold xD
Lonely Wolf, Lonely Sheep - pretty emotionally heavy but so nice and sweet. lemme know if you might need content warnings
Angelic Layer - a CLAMP classic and a way way more shoujo-oriented prequel to chobits
Inari KonKon Koi Iroha - a sweet fantasy story
Gekkan Shoujo Nozaki-kun - a funny manga that is about romance manga. and also romance
I don't really need content warning, since I'm fine with whatever~
Just avoiding sexual themes as I will most likely be reading these in public/at work haha..."
I've never heard of Lonely Wolf, Lonely Sheep and Inari KonKon Koi Iroha before, but they look nice!
And wow, I've seen quite a lot of artwork for Angelic Layer in a chinese magazine when I was like...11 years old haha
It looked interesting but since I can't read chinese, I never knew what it was called, so thanks for that!
Now I can finally check it out after what...12 years xD
As for Gekkan Shoujo Nozaki-kun, I actually watched the anime
And while I did like it a lot, I don't know wether I want to experience the story all over again
Would you happen to know wether the two (the manga and the anime) differ from each other in any way?
But thank you very much for your recommendation!
I'll check 'em out!
the rest should be sfw I think
Nozaki follows the same plot but the manga continues after the anime finishes!
can still quickly click the page away if I feel like someone's looking haha
I see!
Gotta read Nozaki then, I really enjoyed the anime~
with manga i go for either comedy/slice-of-life or horror!
horror specifically ranges anywhere from super vanilla to the nastier stuff
does any of that speak to u? lmao
and if so, which! id love to know to give you a more suitable recommendation~ ^^
It's kinda weird, but I kinda only got into manga because friends kept lending me their manga back in grade school
Wanting me to read them despite the fact that I was SO lazy about reading back then as kid haha
I got into it eventually (obviously, as I wouldn't be asking otherwise haha) but I still kinda just read what either people recommend or what's lying around at people's house.
But comedy sounds nice
Honestly though, just go for it
Suggest whatever you feel like I should be reading haha
Thanks in advance!
Boku no Hero Academia - i know it has an anime but since i've been following the manga for a long time before i never really bothered watching it, however i super recommend the manga, personally ! it's a super cute mix of daily life and school-drama about superheroes ! super shounen, too, if that's your thing!
Yotsuba to! - cute daily life manga about a little kid and her daily life along with her neighbors and family & friends
Mob Psycho 100 - personally my all time fav manga!! super awesome, well thought out, well written, well drawn (in its own way, mainly later in the manga), and overall super great. daily life of a very strong esper teenager. by the same guy who wrote one punch man (if you read that manga, it's not the same artist since he, ONE, did the webcomic and then it was redrawn by yuuske muruta if i'm not mistaken?)
Homunculus - a lot more serious of a manga. i won't get super into the plot because it's really well put out and personally i feel like the way it's written gives it a lot of strength. it's about a person who, due to various circumstances, agrees to having a hole drilled into his skull, and what happens after that. it's a very very good manga, i really reccomend reading it without looking it up too much! i read it completely without knowing a thing about it, and in retrospect i'm sure that was a big part of why i enjoyed it as much as i did!
Eyeshield 21 - another manga that has an anime i never watched. this one'a anime looked really bad though lmao
it's a sports manga! pretty straight forward, i personally think you should read it only if you like the genre, it's art is definitly a strong point!
Ultra Heaven - i don't typically reccomend this manga, but knowing your art style i feel you can really enjoy it? it's not too much of a plot centric manga, rather than a sort of super show-off of the artists' abilities. which personally i really enjoyed !! it's really awesome in that sense. it's about a world where taking drugs is very common and effective, and it takes the world by the point of view of an addict. i think this manga alone totally broke any ideas i had about paneling, and storytelling trough art and comics !
Oh I already have a few of these on my list!
I guess they must be good~
Thank you very much for your recommendations, I'll make sure to check 'em out~
that's cool to hear !! best of luck finding manga you like ^^
Found quite a lot already!
If you are into horror, thrillers, or romantic (though not mushy stereotypical romance) I have some good finds.
Hellsing: Vampires, military, very traditional art style and badass in every sense. (Horror, thriller, historical?)
Owari no Seraph: Vampires, military, school life, thriller, fantasy.
Shiki: Corpse demons (vampires in NA tongue) horror, thriller, kill or be killed notion.
Kuro Bara Alice: Vampires-ish? Not in the stereotypical sense. This is a very thought provoking read- takes thinking to understand and appreciate. Very dark, and in some ways to most- grotesque with the use of dark creatures and moths and other bugs, but I really enjoyed it.
Warau Kyuuketsuki: Vampires/ yokai. DISTURBING AS HELL, AND I LOVED EVERY SECOND READING THIS. IT IS NOT FOR THE FAINT OF HEART. The art style is very old and traditional japanese, but it totally fits the mad and dark atmosphere. It's an insane and demonic world. I will say though, it brings up alot of touchy subjects and things you would never EVER see in typical manga today. Read at your own expense.
Devil's Line: Vampire like (and similar to tokyo ghoul in terms of art likeness) Lots of action and thriller horror; also romantic in a weird way. Vampires are more monstrous in this series.
Tokyo Ghoul: Cannibals, (horror, thriller, detective, school life, action)
Kuroshitsuji: Demons and victorian stuff.
Black Blood Brothers: Vampires and other things. One of the original and first animated vampire series, it's a classic.
Babelheim no Shounin: GREAT GREAT GREAT, mythical creatures, magic, vampires, semi-victorian and other oddities. But i only ever find in japanese.. they may have translated version somewhere.
Spice and Wolf
Revolutionary Girl Utena
Deathnote
Empire of Corpses (GREAT)
MOB
Trinity Blood: (victorian/vampires pretty classic.)
Alice in the Country of Hearts: (alice in wonderland spinoff, but better and more mad)
Sengoku Blood: Demons/historical/fantasy. Samurai as well.
Barajou no kiss: kinda romantic but also action packed and demons and roses, mystery. Roses are a big theme. Art style is great.
Psycho Pass: Thought provoking and mystery, murder, etc.
Bacanno: GREAT, mafia like feel and very insane.
I'm afraid though, our taste in manga varies quite a bit, since I actually read(or watched some of 'em as anime) quite a few of those, but dropped them rather early on, sorry ;w;
Though I do like Baccano, Death Note and Tokyo Ghoul a lot!
As for the ones I don't know yet, I've added them to my list and gladly check them out~
Thanks again!
Uzumaki: A great horror series, can finish it in a night. The early sections of the book are terrific although admittedly the middle of the story looses some of the horror for more unintentional humor though it picks up towards the end. 8/10
Soul Eater: Pretty much until the last section of the Soul Eater anime it's the same however the manga goes on a lot further and really digs in to some crazy themes, it's very much what Full metal Alchemist is to Brotherhood. 8/10
Claymore: The anime ended crazy early compared to the manga. Claymore is great if you want crazy well drawn and fucked up visuals with great action and what not. 7/10
Breaker: Solid series with a good amount of character development and action for a strong action manga. 7/10
Tokyo Ghoul: Better then the anime version as the shot composition and gore is vastly more well done compared. The manga is a lot more focused on the characters and interplay between them as the book is more of a drama then it is action unlike the anime. The book has some great pacing though the fighting is drawn in a very strange way. 6/10
I did read the first book of Soul Eater a few years ago, and while I do intend to watch the anime, I don't think I'll be continuing the manga, because quite frankly, I didn't enjoy the art-style too much...
I finished reading the first series of Tokyo Ghoul about two years ago and am currently reading Tokyo Ghoul:re and still enjoying it.
I will be checking out Uzumaki and Breaker out though!
Thank youf or your recommendation!
But I've added it to my list, and will be checking it out eventually!
Thank you!
it's hard to explain, but some kids are given the ability to turn into bird people, and have to deal with the trials of the new transformation, including being attacked by strange entities based on their trauma.
I'll be sure to check it out!
