What? 2016 sucked? That is such a knee-jerk-reaction. OK, so there was this annoying presidential election and a bunch of celebrities died. But a bunch of other stuff happened, too. Let's take a look...
First, the obvious thing (for me), Sonic, Zelda and Pokemon celebrated anniversaries (to varying degrees). Zelda thought it was ok to just release amiibos to celebrate 30 years. Sonic put out... a new Sonic Boom game. (Also there was this Lego Sonic thing. It's not bad if you have Lego Dimensions... But if you don't want Lego Dimensions, that's a deal breaker) Pokemon did the best, with Pokemon Go becoming inexplicably popular... but that popularity helped propel Sun & Moon to new sales heights, too. Oh, and they put the original games on the Virtual Console...that was this year, too. (I mean last year...)
Batman Vs. Superman released in theaters. It sucked. But then Captain America Civil War came out! ...It was really good for the ten minutes of the actual fight, and then it was mediocre the rest of the way. Suicide Squad was alright. Remember all that silly Ghostbusters controversy? Fantastic Beasts & Where to Find Them was pretty good though... as was Rogue One. Oh, yeah, and God's gift to furries released last year-- Zootopia! After watching that, all the Nick & Judy porn really makes sense to me... All in all, it was a fun year for movies... just had to pick the right ones to go see. And you had to see Ratchet & Clank before playing the game, otherwise you'd hate it for not somehow outshining the 20+ hour game in 90 minutes.
Slow year for games though. I guess I played Fire Emblem Fates this year? That was big for me. Lots of Zelda re-releases. Mario Maker for 3ds... meh. Did Star Fox come out this year or last year? Well... there was... Pokken Tournament? Gah, I'm grasping at straws. Fire Emblem made up for everything pretty good, though. And I spent all year playing every Sonic game I had access to. I sure kept busy.
Sonic Boom though... ugh... can't wait for that show to get canceled, so it'll run forever. Pokemon had its best season finale ever, though. I mean, damn... but you had to be watching to appreciate it. Those are the only cartoons I watch, really. Aside from that, it's all Arrowverse for me. That four-way crossover was EPIC.
Nintendo finally announced the Switch, so there's that. Sonic Mania was also announced. Breath of the Wild was unveiled... Not much else to really look forward to atm, is there?
Still, I'm doing way better at positively framing 2016 than anyone else, eh? It wasn't spectacular, but it wasn't the worst year ever, either. It was a YEAR, folks. Now let's move on to 2017!
BTW, poll results. No one voted. Thanks for being consistent, guys.
