Birthday Doggo/Important Question (....Antidepressants?)
So... My birthday is (or, well, was?) today. It was a lot of fun. No gifts, I think everyone is just... Broke at this point. I should work harder...
But my parents and sister and brother in law all did their best to make today as good as possible! I really appreciate that.
So it was fun. I really enjoyed it. Thank you to all who wished me a happy birthday today!
I... Dunno, I can't ask you guys to donate anything over birthday stuff. I need to replace tech, a lot of it, a lot is wearing out or breaking down, but... People need money badly. I'd feel bad asking for stuff. I need to work harder..
I have a bit of an odd question... Due to my bad depression and anxiety, I've been visiting doctors and psychologists, a small team is trying their best to help me. But since this has been an issue for so long, they're talking about antidepressants. They've been looking into this, and me, for a while now. Tomorrow I'm meeting with the psychologist. They might start medication tomorrow. I'm honestly really against medication. If it helps people, that's great, love hearing that, but.... I've seen things go very wrong for several people. I've... Lost very important people over stuff like bad antidepressants.
...Do any of you have experience with this? I'm... Honestly scared, now... I dunno if I can do it. They say it can take up to 6 months to see a change. And its going to get worse first. I don't know how to feel about that. Its already so bad lately...

About how the medicine works it also depends on the person, for some people it works quickly but more often it takes longer. I haven't taken antidepressants myself nor am I depressed, but one of my friends are and my girlfriend have been.
The best thing I can tell you is if you are on the medication DO NOT stop taken it instantly, that can lead to serious down time as in feeling dead inside.
If you get the right medication it should go well, but you won't be able to feel super happy, but you also won't feel super bad, it kinda goes like (fine - neutral - meh) instead of (happy - fine- neutral - meh - sad) atleast it did so for my gf.
Again, I have NO experience myself, but I have witnessed it.
I still hope it helps :)
As someone who has been in the medical system for a while, I can honestly say that anything is better than what I was going through before medication. I was in the system enough for me to feel confident with the Psychiatrist's choice to medicate. (Psychologists cannot prescribe you medication so if your Psychologist is doing that-- there is a problem. Only Psychiatrists can do that)
I can't give medical advice as I am not a doctor, but I am someone in the system. If you've been seeking help for extended time and they are talking about medication, then it is likely a good choice to try. I have been on different things, some work, some don't. Nothing I have been given was dangerous to me whatsoever. I only experienced minor side effects. What exactly are you afraid of?
Granted, the medication I've had has really focused on anxiety, which it did help address/curb. However we are still working to find something for the depression as well.
I can't give any advice on the antidepressants but i we you have a few people above me giving out some advice so I hope that information they're giving helps you in the long run.
I was on Prozac for about a year a few years back. It actually didn't do anything for the actual depression for me, but it did help to stabilize my mood, which allowed me to focus long enough to develop the skills I needed to properly manage my depression (my psychiatrist made me go through a stress management class).
Like everyone has said, different meds work and have different effects on a person to person basis. Just because 1 worked amazing for me doesn't mean it will show the same benefits for you. Depending on your diagnosis, your doctors might try a bunch of different meds and eventually put you on a cocktail of a few drugs to balance everything out as well. All of them will have side effects which go away as your body gets used to the new chemicals so give them time before you tell your doctor you need it changed, but make sure you let them know of any changes you or those around you notice.
Above all else though, don't stop taking them unless your doctor tells you to. Even if you're feeling better, it just means the drugs are doing their job. Going off of them will make you crash hard and depending on how long you stop them, the medication might not work the same way once you restart it.
Good luck and Happy Birthday! Hopefully this year will bring changes for the better!
I've tried several meds my self and I've found lexapro to work really well. but every persons chemistry is different. It may take a while to find the balance for you. in the mean time. exercise and self improvement helped me a bit till we found something that worked.
Hope things work out soon.
I also wish you a nice birthday! x3
I sadly have no experience with medications for this :< Sorry I can't be of help ;w;
