I find it extremely disrespectful as someone who commissions other to not have payment ready. The people taking, often, hours out of their day to uphold their end of the deal. Not having funds ready is just downright selfish.

If they don't have funds set aside before they ask, they likely are tight on funds and cannot really afford to get a commission.

People treat furry art as if it's a necessity when it's just a luxury.

Don't spend what you don't have, it should be that simple, yet people do it anyway regardless.

This. I recently did a survey of my readers, and there were an unsettling number of people that put down variations of "All VK's stuff isn't free," "Some of your stuff is behind a paywall," as an answer to "Least favorite thing about VK as an author."

I've got all of four and a half things that I wrote that someone has to pay for to see. Three of which are art/story sets that I posted the story part that I wrote (I am not an artist and have to collaborate for these) several months later.

And I've posted over 250 free stories over the span of 12 years.

I know there are artists out there who take Steam games as payment, or others that are willing to reserve someone a slot until a payday. That being said, as an artist you have to set what you want for commissions, and it's up to commissioners to respect what you set.
