Everyone is talking about discord, and a lot of friends are on it, but I am not. Why? Apparently it has a system minimum requirement of Windows 7. I don't have anything past vista. Sooo yeah, I am up some creek here. Plus I miss many neat features on second life, like glowing things and shiny reflective things..

Because that's what came on this Lappy and I don't think it's even compatible with anything newer

I'd ask how old the laptop is, but Linux (or *nix* variants) has been around since the 90's, and for being free, it is a reasonably usable OS, the only normal limit it has is any intensive gaming.
