Random game design idea, just for shits and giggles.

A great idea for a alien invasion style game cane to mind. Wouldn't work for PvA due to the story already in place, but an idea that be good to mention.
Since PvA is a guide "hallway" kind of adventure. I've been wondering if there was any way to expand of the world and make it a bit open.
The idea I came up with us this. The aliens crash on one side of the map and MC (Main character)'s town is right close by. The world is completely open and you can go just about anywhere, anytime, in realtime. There would be a 24 hour clock and as time goes on. The Aliens spread in real time. The player would have to decide which way they would wanna go. They are not told. The point is to gain as many fallowers as you could and not be killed (or eaten in our case). The player would only get one life with only temp saves. Once the player dies, they start all over again. The end goal would be to meet at a stronghold then go into the big battle with the ad of the allies picked up along the way. Each one would be an advantage in the battle to defeat the enemy.
Yes, this is very similar to PvA's storyline layout but with a ton of extra freedom thrown in. The big drawbacks however is less characterization. With all the towns villages and cities all be accessable, then character development would be more spread out. Meaning there would be more useless NPCs that are destined to be doomed. With the character that PvA is character focused, this idea would break a lot of things. Character and story wise. Plus there's the fact that you play more thenone character's story in the same time frame.

It'd be cool if the aliens could actually grow larger as they grow stronger, so if you don't check their expansion, then they never stop growing stronger until your eventual devourment...

One interesting thing that could be done with this is to hide one of the best characters in the game right near the beginning, but the character is only acquirable within the first five minutes. Afterwards, you miss your chance as he heads off to fight the aliens on his own, and fails. Meaning you basically have to know in advance to head straight there to meet him (likely by talking to the villagers after he left on your first attempt, and putting two and two together), or just get lucky, since even right as you start the game you have barely enough time to reach his location soon enough.

This sounds rather interesting. Almost like a sort of Rogue like idea within your games universe. The curveball would be there is hidden aliens and if you trust some npcs too much they spring their trap to devour you hehe.
