The One Where I Talk About Stuff
Hello. Here are some things:
- Just found out that there's a new 3D Castlevania in the works for the 360. It's being produced by Hideo Kojima. It's being developed by the team that made Clive Barker's Jericho. I don't know what to think of this. :|
- I'd hate to be a celebrity this year. They're dropping like flies. Ironically, I was informed of Jackson's demise during a game of TF2. "Grandpa, where were you when Michael Jackson died?" "Um, busy. Curing cancer. Certainly not wasting my time in a video game."
- After a solid month of overcast days and weeks of thunderstorms, June has finally started to act like JUNE. Sun and heat have arrived.
- Carnal Combat is on indefinite hiatus again. I know the story I want to tell. I just don't have the desire to tell it. Other stories seem much more interesting to me at the moment.
- Speaking of other stories, one is in the works. If you watch my account at all you've likely seen a few pics relating to it. Looking forward to showing everyone more.
- UFC 2009 Undisputed is a great first try by THQ at capturing the sport of MMA in virtual form, but I really wish they hadn't made the single-player career mode an MMA training simulator. You spend hours preparing training schedules for your fighter and maybe 25 minutes in a fight, if even that. Yes, that is just like real life, and that is the problem. I'd rather play an MMA GAME over actually experiencing the frustration of spending weeks training before being punched in the face.
- Speaking of the UFC, if you're in any way an MMA fan and you didn't catch Diego Sanchez vs Clay Guida last weekend, do yourself a favor and watch it. The whole card was full of excellent fights, but Sanchez/Guida was a war, or "FUKIN NUTS" as Dana White put it. The first minute was a pure test of testicular fortitude between these guys, and half-way through the first round Guida took a head kick from Sanchez that would have murdered lesser men. Guida stood up and got angry. Wild.

For the record, I enjoyed Lament of Innocence. Beautiful visuals and beautiful soundtrack. <3
But, that's the biggest thing that annoys me about a LOT of modern day developers. They don't try to make something that's fun or high quality. Instead, they just try to cut and paste something that had even a modicum of success for someone else, then milk a "franchise" until every ounce of soul is sucked out of it.
Orrrrrr, we get the sell-outs who try to cater solely to the ever-expanding casual gamer demographic, churning out games that are little more than one huge tutorial mode, or a barely interactive movie. Yay! Please, let's just turn every action by the protagonist into a quick time event, so even Biff the epileptic Madden bro can beat the next Ninja Gaiden in 2 hours.
Then on the other hand, the few games that "dare" come out which actually present a challenge or old school difficulty get shredded in reviews by these pansy-assed casual hipsters who have the audacity to call themselves "gamers." And...wow, I really went off on a tangent, didn't I? =P
I hear you, though. IGA has said before that he wants (wanted) to do another 2D or sidescrolling Castlevania on the major consoles, but Konami basically didn't think it would sell. They thought it would only sell on the DS/GBA. I don't think that Castlevania: Dracula X Chronicles sold too well on PSP, so that killed the idea further.
There's a ton of life left in sidescrollers. SF4, Motherfucking-BRAID, Little Big Planet; all big sellers, well received, and quite old-school.
