Bro's Injured Cat (help no longer neede)
Buy me a ko-fi and fuel more personal art!
JOURNAL STARTS HERE Unfortunately the damage from Gizmo's tail extended into his bowels and they ended up putting him to sleep as it was too severe for him to recover from. My brother isn't being charged for the treatment that was given.
Gizmo was warm and happy in his last days, and that's all we could have asked for.
If you can, please consider donating or commissioning my bro or sharing this! (there's more info from my bro in the comments! including updates)
My brother's cat, Gizmo, had his tail injured somehow (we was missing for a few days before he was found and we're not sure what happened) and found by a neighbour, and without paying for emergency treatment for him, Gizmo will have to be handed over to the RSPCA and may well be put to sleep. The injury is treatable if my bro can get the funds together. He can usually afford everything for his pets but recently problems keep popping up and wiping out his savings.
Please help my brother out in any way you can, even if it's just reblogging the tumblr post!
He's happy to take on furry commissions too!

What is the damage? There is not any details on exactly what is wrong with the tail, unless the bone is sticking out it will heal on its own but will just be messed up looking (Which is not great but is better than death)
The time limit is based on the suffering of the animal. The cat is already in their care as he was collected from the neighbour before my brother was made aware of him being injured. Gizmo's tail is completely stripped of fur, is withered and damaged looking from what I've been told, I've not seen him myself and can only go on what I've been told of the situation because we don't live too closer to each other and my brother hasn't been able to get access or direct contact yet due to the place the cat is at closing at 4PM, so we're running on limited info but he still needs help asap. It's likely incredibly painful for Gizmo, and may have open wounds, that without treatment, may get infected.
And yes we live around 20 miles apart so my brother can't tell you as much as he wasn't there, but he wants to try and help because he's amazing like that.
Firstly, since the RSPCA are the ones who have him (ASPCA in the United States) the options open are to pay for the treatment he needs or to sign him over so that they can treat him - or alternatively if he is suffering too much put him to sleep. He is also not able to be re homed under their current rules because he has behavioral issues stemming from his previous owner. In which case I believe it's standard here for them to implement euthanasia. If you own the animal are refuse to pay for the needed treatments first you will have the animal forcibly seized and then depending on the state of the animal charges of animal cruelty may or may not be put in place.
if you had read the information in the original tumblr post you will have read that due to not being able to get him into a pet transporter myself the rspca was the only way for us to be able to get him transported to receive treatment. As such he is currently being held at the RSPCA Leybourne Animal Centre, 199 Castle Way, West Malling ME19 5HW in England if you would like to check this exists. So at least he is out of the cold garage he was found in across the road from our home and in a warm place.
I am unsure of how things work in the USA regarding this sort of thing but this is how it is in the United Kingdom.
As far as the tail is concerned it could be a number of things and I am not 100% sure yet as to what the cause is because I am going up to the centre tomorrow to see him and talk with the staff there. Which is when things will be updated regarding the exact condition of his injuries. It could be the result of an accident which would imply more could be wrong with him than the visible tail issue. Last we saw him he was fine and there was no hair loss on the tail or any indication of skin condition but it could also be a serious skin issue that can lead to infection, gangrene and possibly death if it was left with no antibiotics etc (which cost money hence how he could die even if the bone is not exposed because of septicemia). There are also instances of animal abuse in the area where people's pets have been fed antifreeze, been shot with air guns (a cat was shot last year in the throat very near our house) and chased and kicked etc. There are people around who do not like cats, unfortunately.
The man and woman who discovered him were very distressed by what was wrong with his tail (fully grown adults) and told me I shouldn't look at it because it was so bad. Despite having experience working in a veterinary surgery + assisting open surgeries I did NOT move the cat when I saw him before he was taken because of both his behavioral issues and the fact that being my own animal I was already upset enough knowing he was hurt, let alone trying to upend up and possibly cause more injury if his tail had sustained fractures affecting his spine.
I hope this clears things up for you. And by all means there is no obligation to help out at all. If it comes to it I will sign him over so he can hopefully get the help or peace he needs. But obviously I don't want to have my daughters beloved pet taken from us unless absolutely necessary.
From the sound of it it sounds like he got his tail stuck somewhere and pulled if there was hair missing but no hair loss before.
This happen to a dog of mine once. Someone shut a door on his tail accidentally and he pull and all the fur ripped off leaving it very red (maybe from blood was long time ago) and bald. q-q
He was ok but I'm sure it was painful and the fur grew back, maybe something like this happened?
And I am sad to hear there is a lot of animal abuse in the area :( Someone in my area was putting poison traps in the park to kill dogs and police put up signs.
I will have this Journal featured tomorrow on
I am not sure about care credits but when i go tomorrow I'm planning to ask what treatment he will need, how much it is likely to cost all together and then also if they offer any sort of payment plans. The 'goal' that's up on ko-fi right now is £300 as I know emergency vet costs are around £150 just to go through the door and since he was taken on a Sunday that would likely apply. Once I know for sure I can decrease the goal, if it's more than 300 I'm still planning on leaving it at 300 because I already feel bad enough asking people for their money, and I'll find a way somehow for any remaining costs. If it's in the 1000's I might have to sign him over though. They are a charity and since i am on certain benefits because of being a registered carer for my disabled son we might be eligible for reduced charges but again I'm not sure until tomorrow when I can update properly.
Care credits are a thing here that is basically like a loan to pay the whole bill at once that you pay off in payments once all is said and done. I don't know if they're in the U.K. (I just assume they're universal??) but if so surely they'd be able to help in some way or point you towards someone who can considering the situation. :/ I hope you're able to find something--even if they have to just amputate the kitty's tail at least he'd still be alive and healthy! (I've got a bobtailed cat myself who lost part of her tail somehow before I ever got her and she's a sweetie pie!)
They contacted my mum via the phone (she does anything involving phones for me so hence they called her not me) and said that he is definitely at this centre, has had to have his tail amputated already and has intensive 4 weeks of treatment left - I am unsure if that's from his tail or if he had something else!
Apparently I can't just turn up in person but my mum's going to keep at them and see if we can pick him up tomorrow when she isn't at work and can come along with me. She's currently waiting for a response for that as the only way to contact that centre is via email (a pain, but all of their phone lines are automated messages telling people to search a website) She's done all this for me when I was resting this morning and said she'll ask about costs too to get a better idea when they contact her back.
I do worry about what he'll cope like now, though. He was wobbly on his feet anyway (not very good at jumping up on things, fell off of them a lot etc, in comparison to my other two cats) but it could be something to do with his previous home (he was so skinny and ratty and miserable when I first got him from there I'm sure he went through a lot) Anyway I just wanted to update with what I know right now! I do have a paypal so I'll note that if you prefer and honestly thank you for your wish to help it means a lot to all of us.
We wish we could have been able to help in this situation
