Question for artists of any kind
Do you get annoyed when you spend a lot of time on a piece you're proud of, but when you post it you don't get any comments?
This seems to be happening to people I know a lot more frequently nowadays and I always found it very discouraging. One of the best parts about doing art is getting feedback on it so you can grow and improve, and it just doesn't seem like a lot of social art networks have that kind of environment anymore. I don't know.
Thoughts?
FA+

The main important thing is to be confident in yourself. But, I know what you mean. FA has its ups, and downs. I would say..maybe try FB if you want crits.
....okay then.
Thought this was just me, guess not! Dx
:/ I miss it.
I recently joined FA, but I've been an online artist for about five years, so I understand full proof how it feels to work hard and not get any recognition.
:^)
There was a rather large non smut community of amazing art school artists on here in the late 2000s and early 2010s but it seems like only smut really remains on FA, at least of the people working on doing this professionally or being a professional artist.
Probably be much better to start a chat group on telegram with artists you like as a critique circle.
I still watch plenty of non-smut artists who post their work all the time and get comments / favorites on it. Definitely wouldn't say FA is "only smut." Don't know, maybe it comes down to the people you surround yourself with and the artists you choose to watch.
Just my take on it
Fast forward 5 years into the future: you're a late fur, you've seen everything. From highest quality prints that could hang on Gugenheim walls, to the slimiest reaches of e621. Every time you see a good piece of art, it doesn't look so good anymore, because you've passed the burnout point, and it's all everyday foxes from now on. It's either boring fucking (furry fucking really become stale, nothing new had been invented since I found the fandom), story illustrations (you don't have time to read the text, and even if you did, the illustration looks pale compared to the full extent of lore and emotions in the source material) or angsty self-expression (you've passed the age when emo bullshit had any meaning to you, so the line between tragedy and comedy gets blurry).
When I look at furry art, first thing that comes to my mind is price. And there I can't find any comfort, because the low quality artwork is either overpriced (subjectively!), or is of so low quality that it's not worth even asking for a free request. I can't afford the high quality art, only stare at it like a fox stares at the grapes.
Oh, and I forgot this: maybe people don't want to comment on art because they're afraid they might upset or offend the artist. So they keep their muzzle shut and carry on, thinking, no touch is better than bad touch.
I've always been mainly established on deviantart but gaining traction on Furaffinity and Twitter has been very difficult due to a lack of feedback. I have had people in the past approach me and say they enjoy my art but are too shy to comment. I feel like, somehow, the majority of people are like that. Looking and favoriting is a lot easier then commenting, especially when you follow a lot of artists that post similar content. You run out of what to say eventually.
You just said you were proud of the piece, just think of the comments you told yourself while working on it
I often just think that people are that shy.
I'd probably just seek out the commissioner's feedback :P
As to lower disappointment.
Posted some Valentine ych's and I didn't get very much buyers interested except for two which is good enough but still, it bothers me. It makes me feel that my art isn't good enough for people.
Also,..I really like gouda cheese, y'know?
Almost a little troubled by that response as I try to make a lot of my personal art relatable / invite deeper thought (with the exception of commissions, obviously.)
like this: http://www.furaffinity.net/view/20694848/
i guess just because it has more edge in it idk LMAO
I feel it so hard
That energy's better spent on making more things, for people to also say nothing to, but I make stuff for me in the end, so it's whatever.
one issue is that, not knowing really how to draw or paint, I don't often have critical comments available.
And it seems that 90% of comments on this site are just like ":3 that's so cute. <SQUEE!>". Sometimes I will leave a comment like that, just "great pic!" or whatever, but usually only if there are no other comments.
I suggest writing, at the bottom of the description window where people will see it, something to invite or encourage people to comment. put it on every single thing you post. I bet you can get at least a few more that way.
I suggest not having it centered like you do w/ most of your text. people will notice it better that way.
or also even use asterisks or something like
**Fucking comment, you dimwits!**
