Have I mentioned that I dislike the media?
Woohoo, the media's on a roll right now.
This one isn't for my furry research. A few weeks ago, I co-authored a piece in a psychological journal about global warming. In a nutshell, here's the logic of our original piece:
a) Global warming is a thing.
b) Research suggests that as it gets warmer, people are at an increased risk for aggressive behavior.
c) Also, as it gets warmer (climate-wise), there's increased risk of droughts and intense weather, which could spark regional conflicts over water / resources.
d) Ergo, one reason to be concerned about global warming (among many) is the potential for increased hostility.
I didn't think it was TOO controversial. Silly me. It's now being reported all over alt-right websites, as me saying "people can riot and murder others because it's too hot outside and people can't control themselves". Then the idiots who read the piece have a grand old time at what a raving looney I sound like.
What's even funnier is that they clearly didn't even TRY to discredit me. If they'd only taken the time to Google my name, they could've thrown up pictures of me in a fursuit to make me look even less credible.
Article can be found here, along with my original (below).

It's like I've said for the past 10 years now, the first step to becoming scientifically literate: STOP FUCKING WATCHING THE NEWS! Don't get me wrong, I'm sure that at their skill-sets they're good, but goddamnit, they couldn't science their way out of a paper bag if their over-inflated egos and reputations depended on it.
The current political climate fills me with utter despair.
((and honestly they could've literally pulled up so much on you, i think they're just trying to get ratings, not have you lose your reputation))
I think, with your a-d synopsis, that it sums it up clearly to me, but then again, I think in odd terms, so abstract comes as second nature. Sadly, some folks just can't see beyond the sensationalist headlines. They colour things their own way - to fit their own world views. To... give themselves an excuse.
as a right of center kinda person I am skeptical of MAN-CAUSED global climate change. mostly because of the cherry-picked data, mass hysteria, and outright lies told in order to promote legislation based on flawed/skewed data.
I DO NOT doubt that the climate is changing, all you have to do is look at geological data to see the only thing that hasn't changed is gravity. there was a mass extinction and global climate change when certain plants started consuming CO2 and releasing O2 which was a deadly poison to the dominate life forms at the time. then there were all those glaciers that covered the norther hemisphere and all.
the only constant IS change.
Oh, just read your article, I thought it was well thought out. and the parody (for how can you call it anything else) was eyeroll worthy at best, and deliberate mocking at worst.
so what do I take away from all this? assholes will be assholes, and it Obviously cannot be global warming if you are dressing yourself up in a giant furry suit.
it's obviously another ice age
That's the alt-right's game. They thrive on disdain for intellectuals, and they're practised at how to destroy serious discourse. They enter a discussion demanding to be heard and "engaged" as a differing opinion that must be respected. You try to debate reason with them though and they simply don't care. They spout their truth, they denounce any counter-evidence you may provide as "lies" or "biased", they refuse to acknowledge logic or logical fallacy (rather, they deflect your valid accusations of logical fallacy by making invalid ones against you in return). They simply drown out the opposition with the repeated insistence that they're right, until eventually the more level-headed give up in disgust. At which point they proclaim victory.
Tactics pulled straight out of the grade 5 schoolyard, and I can't believe how many grown adults I'm encountering lately resorting to them. Twisting everything to fit their narrative, unconditionally denying everything that disagrees with them, all while still insisting that they're discussing fairly and the only reason they're not convinced yet is that you've failed to make your case.
Sorry for the rant, and I'm sorry they've distorted your work. There will always be those among us that were actually taught to think, and will understand what it was you were originally trying to say...
Sadly, this happens constantly now. THANK YOU MODERN (worthless) MEDIA.
K Fox (sorry for the shouting - but I'm trying to deal with my now twitching eye, and it's distracting...)
I can't imagine how frustrating or upsetting that must be. At least there is a portion of the population who has managed to evolve a complete and properly functioning central nervous system. Within that portion there is also a group who is capable of rational thought and have the ability to read and understand your article from an intellectual point of view. So at least it's not all lost on those people.
Interesting article... "The researchers conclude, based on the collection of studies, that uncomfortably hot temperatures increase aggression." This might explain some of the behavior I've seen exhibited during summers here in Florida :'3
Sounds like some pretty fascinating work you're doing though Nuka! Keep up the amazing research and don't let the idiots get you down!
