With Slave Trade now printing and work started on Battle Master, it seems like it's an idea time to discuss "Where to next?"
I've arrived at something of a crossroads here in the furry community and in my creative endeavors.
Slave Trade is printing and will soon be shipped to those who have ordered it; sales have been going for a month on the eBook version.
Battle Master is underway and I look forward to posting the next chapter very soon to my Patreon. Speaking of Patreon, now that Slave Trade is complete and published I will be reworking my patron categories in the near future.
Tales of the Wave Rider, Vol 1: Splintered Light is nearing an end and will be coming to a close in just two weeks.
Q: So where does that leave me?
A: Moving forward, as always.
Over the next few months I plan on doing some regular updates to stories that have been neglected or set by the wayside; my objective is to complete at least one or two of these before moving on to something new. I'm certainly open to suggestions, but right now I'm eying Dragon in the Dishwater, No Chance, and Pawford for (semi)consistent updates. Thoughts?
Some time toward the end of summer I will also be introducing my next reader-involved tale, which will involve smaller updates on a more regular basis and involve characters contributed by readers rather than all author-designed. Think of it as a combination between a reader contribution story and roleplaying. One or two pages every two days, with full reader input on characters, actions, and plot. The genre will be fantasy, but more on "Ransor's Hollow" at a later date. ;)
In the meantime, I simply wanted to make sure my readers are up to date on my plans and where my work will be going. Thank you all for your support and inspiration!

Otherwise, great work overall! Thank you for sharing such amazing stories :)
It is in need of some updates!
And I agree, there are so many questions raised with the first non-violent meeting with the Tikk'!
RRrrrrrrr!!!
YAY!
No Gir, that's bad.
YAY!
...I could gush all night, but that's not very helpful. (Especially since I should have been in bed already and you-know-who is unhappy about that fact.)
* Finishing up some thingws before starting more things is something I ALWAYS am for. I know fewer open projects gives you less variety... but lots of stories means it is often months between updates on some of them (Sometimes a year or better). That tends to really, frankly, kill my enthusiasm for them. It pulls the reader out of the story and leaves them in a state of "Where were we? Who are these people? What was going on?". A story that loses momentum is a story that loses excitement and inertia.
...Dragon in the Dishwater seems to do alright in this situation, but it still takes me a while to get back into it when you share a new chapter. :^) I still say that is is your Magnum Opus. It's... really, it's very beautiful.
As of right now, Pawford seems to do alright with the pacing. Each chapter feels like a stand-alone little slice-of-life story.
No Chance: Left Behind is... in need of some serious TLC. The poor thing has dragged on for so long withut an update that I am completely lost every time you post a new chapter and it takes me most of the chapter to even remember what's going on. I like the story, and the characters and the premise, but hte time between updates makes it really hard for me to get into it.
Too Late: Just In Time is in the same boat as NC:LB. (No, not the bill dealing with education).
Cohen Loop's premise is very cool too. I enjoy it, and think that it would also benefit from a more-frequent update schedule.
I LOVE Slave Trade because of the depth of... well, everything. The characters are great (I love Talvin almost as much as Majh... maybe more in some ways, less in others). The story is compelling and exciting and really keeps my interest. It's also had a full story told and is on a second story - many of the others on this list haven't even finished their first story, and some are older than Slave Trade!
Now then... *Clears throat* YOU STARTED A NEW THING WITH JEN AND THEO AND HAVE LEFT ME HANGING, YOU JERK!!! GET BACK TO THIS AWESOME UNIVERSE AND STORY AND STOP LETTING IT LAY FALLOW! RAWR! *Stomps around and makes a mess, but doesn't break anything important*
Seriously, more of them, please. I'm soooo in the science fiction headspace right now, you have no idea.
As for EVERY. LAST. POINT. YOU. MADE about your Reader Contribution stories... have you been talking to a mutual friend/acquaintance of ours about this? He and I had quite a talk the other day about your reader contribution stories the other day when you weren't around, and this is pretty much what we said. About Splintered Light, I think my exact comment was "It's a cool premise and world and all, but A) it is so fractured by the way every post bounces around, that I just can't get into it, and B) I don't have 'a horse in the race', so I'm just not able to generate a lot of enthusiasm for it". No offense.. I know that's pretty blunt and to the point of me (Apologies!)... but I'm just trying to give you my point of view on it. I know I'm just ONE reader (You have lots of us), but if I don't share it, how will you know?
I'm excited for your Reader Contribution stories. I enjoyed ZAFL and REALLY enjoyed Zion (As you WELL KNOW - I LOVE YOU MAJH BLACKPAW). The Lead Crown was pretty good too. I think that making posts about GROUPS instead of so closely focused on one or two individuals really helped make the story feel more cohesive and like it was progressing along a common, central storyline and plot (As opposed to SL, which seems like a bunch of tiny little glimpses into people stuck on a ship together with only the thinnest of visible plots moving along in the background). Letting readers contribute characters and have SOME say in their character's action in each post they are in is a good way to really keep the contributing readers (And the people who interact with them or who take an interest in the contributed characters) involved and excited and, well, contributing. It gives a real personal investment in the story.
Now then, where are my Ransor's Hollow notes?
WE NEED TO SPEND MORE TIME CHATTING, DURN IT.
Woo! Looks like you had a lot of really good points to make, DF!
A lot of great input and much to think on.
As for Farlight Initiative, that is also a good point in and of itself... I may have to consider that for some updates too!
heh heh... Ransor's Hollow... bwahahaha.
I don't think there's anything new there that I haven't said before, but sometimes putting it all down on "paper" helps keep track of it all, ya know?
Did I miss some "Open" stories there? Hm.
FARLIGHT
INITIATIVE!
I hope it's everything you're expecting and then some!
