It's not like furry art is anything more than drawing animal characters.
Thinking of "furry" as anything beyond that is a stereotype that you hate being cast under and perpetuate at the same time.

Just because you draw animals it doesn't make you furry - it's up to each person to decide that on their own, I guess. I have a few friends here that don't like being called furry, say they aren't furries, or say that they're hardly furry at all. Even if you aren't furry it's fine to be here, though I dunno why you would be if you weren't just a slight bit. That's why I think it's weird when people refuse it completely.
And by furry I mean you enjoy cartoons animals, or drawing them, it doesn't have to be more than that.
It might be kind of like how I am also on YaoiGallery, but I can't stand yaoi - I just like gay stuff. Even if I'm not into yaoi, there's a slight relation there and I wouldn't refuse its existence.

I know there's more to furry art than that, but I think it's usually difficult or incorrect to assume that furry has to be something more too. There are plenty of people that aren't involved with suits, or yiffing, or animal souls like Loth mentioned.
If more people understood that, I think less of them would have a problem with furries, or being called furries. That's all I really mean to say, I guess.

But thats just it, there putting more into something where it doesnt belong. It was like putting drama into spyro games. Its a FANDOM. Not a LIFESTYLE. Its a drawing style, not an excuse to dress up as an animal, then act like an animal, and so on. Theres really nothing wrong with the base idea of furry, but there is something horribly wrong with the people in it. I say its cause Ben Yahtzee was right, all people are tossers. As for the sexual part, theres ALWAYS gonna be porn in a fandom. ALWAYS. Even back in the 80's there was a sliver of furry porn. SO theres really nothing wrong with it until people took it too far as usual then manipulate furry so to make it all about it . . and even if they say thats not what its about to them, you and I both know those foolih porn artist are outright lying

I've seen the worse side of the fandom too, but it doesn't mean I'd rather be called something else. :B There's already a name for what it is we like - all you have to do is understand that there's a good and bad side of it and different people fall under different parts of it.
But I don't have a problem with it if you'd rather be called something else.

What I mostly meant (Or should have more so clarified) is that other people arent gonna think like that. And just trying to explain it doesnt work.

I guess it only matters if you're really concerned with how people judge you.

Myself, I am a furry. Now, I define myself.
I am an artist, I depict myself mainly as my fursona, an altered version of a Moogle, when drawing. I do not, however, run around claiming I am a furry/moogle. I do not dress up as one, and I never participate in sexual acts based upon this fandom. I would only dress up as one for the mere fun of dressing up, as one who would put on any costume, and attend some sort of costume based gathering.

I find myself generally annoyed by furries, mostly just the over the top ones. I suppose because I'm based too much in reality.

On another note, I do think you can post art here and not be a furry. Drawing and posting pictures of gay men does not make you a gay man, nor does drawing furries dub you a furry.

I just had to comment on one aspect here . . Im pretty sure if you draw and post gay content, youre gay. Think about it, theres a big difference between relating posting anthro art and gay art

I draw gay men. I draw gay women. I draw all sorts of stuff, doesn't mean I am any of it.

Heres an example: Not all muslims are Indian, and not all Indians are muslims. So not all people who draw anthros are furries, and not all furries draw anthros.
