Good thing you live more or less in the middle of nowhere. Anywhere suburban or in the city with a 5-day internet outage would have devolved into a rabid, riot torn society.

Yeah, that's true.

But where I live, few people are 'attached' to their net stuff. Most of the older folks don't even own computers.

Where I live lost not just internet but electricity for about a week a few years ago.

The biggest impact, (at the time[1]), was that a local Pizza Nova went to being open 24 hours a day for the duration. (Gas ovens, so they could keep cooking so long as they didn't turn them off.)

[1] Later impacts included finally getting the idiots who had blocked the previous four attempts to bury the hydro lines to shut up and our MP getting to absolutely curbstomp his opponents in the next federal election.
