it makes me sick...

...you know, the whiny artists that complain when their images get reposted. I'm not talking about artwork that you take from someone and call your own, that is art theft. I'm talking about image boards and the arrogant attitude of a few of the artists that try to spoil it for everyone else. The problem is infact comparable to the RIAA (some of the ideas to limit this so-called image piracy directly parallel what RIAA has attempted with music). All RIAA has accomplished is alienating and persecuting the innocent consumer, and taking even more money from the actual musicians.
People see an image they like. They save it. Somehow, in the twisted logic of a select few artists this is a despicable crime. What's worse, when they want to show their friends what a great artist someone is, posting this images or sharing them is an even worse offense. Actually, this is really quite tragic because such artists are fighting against free advertising. Also, I'm a heck of a lot more likely to commission an artist that doesn't whine about their art constantly. My favorite artists are the ones that do art for the sake of art and the community, not to just hoard up.
The fans may want to keep in mind that it is more polite to ask first, and the artists should remember who they're doing the art for, the fans. Otherwise, aren't you simply whoring out your skills?
(PS, taking money for commissions is ok, but be reasonable, it's economics. Set the price too high, and it encourages people to find other ways to get it.)
That's my opinion. I enjoy a good debate. Go go go!

Hell, If I see an image that I have done get posted else where,
that is a physical indication that the image has likeable attributes.
I'm a no-name bastard, so I fancy the idea of more people learning about me.
With regards to the re-posting fears,
This is the same mentality you see in the Tattoo Flash/Design community. I think that it stems from a fear that an artist holds some sort of trade secret skill that can be replicated once someone has a copy of their art to study from. Thus diluting the creativity pool with clones. A legitimate fear, but that cannot be avoided.
As far as the commisions go, I feel that an artist can set whatever price they want. After all, it's the artist's hours that are being consumed. There are plenty of artists to choose from if one has steep charges over the other. Personally, I draw nasty pictures for fun and explore character design ideas.
some artist are very protective of ther intelectual proprety and take serious offence in others tampering with that,
to expand on this , some artists keep ther picturs as a truly limited distributions , sharing only with frends and such , having a "persenal" pictur posted could be seen as a persenal violation. (yes eaven i have a couple of picturs like that)
next ther are the artist that make having ther artwork a limitid distribution ther bread and butter (sexyfur) , havig pay per vue material avaleble for free is literaly affecting ther revenue source.
