UPDATE from my previous journal.
If you haven't read my last journal, here's the TL;DR version:
''Making tv animation is tiring and unfulfilling, something something, whining about the nature of the industry, fuck this, I'll try to get a better job in animation.''
First, I have officially annonced my departure from the studio i'm currently working at, and only have one week left to endure. This alone has made my job significantly less of chore as I don't feel the pressure of the deadline and just work on my quotas at my own pace, trying to do a decent job.
Second, litterally the day after I took the decision to leave, I received a phone call from a contact I've had for a while to offer me a job as a head of animation/rigger in a small team ( 3 - 5 people) for a new studio in a city that I enjoy a lot more than the one I'm currently at. It will still be for TV animation, but this time for advertisings, which, while more demanding in terms of quality than cartoons, tend to be produced over a couple month at most and thus are a lot less tiring. I took the offer of course. While it's not the perfect creative job I'm aiming for in the long run, it's still a pretty damn good and rare opportunity. Besides it's only for a few month, so even if that experience doesn't turn out great, at least I won't have to stick to it for more than half a year ( and it will look good on my CV ).
Anyways, I also wanted to thank everyone who commented on the previous journal for their moral support, it was really uplifting and kind of helped me build up the courage to say ''I quit'' to my bosses, you guys are the best! And for those who will soon, or want to enter the industry and might have been turned off by what I said : TV animation is still a good entry point in my opinion. Getting a foot in the door and making some contacts is a major first step in the small world of animation, and as shown above, can then lead to more intersting work sooner or later.
Hope you found all that at least informative, have a nice day/evening!
