Extended Commission FAQ

**All prices and commission types are under my Commissions Tab. This is a comprehensive list of answers to frequently asked questions and it's not necessary to go through this journal to commission me.**
How do I know how many slots are open?
Click here for my live queue. This is the most up to date location for slot availability. My front profile page will also generally state whether I'm able to take on new work or not.
How long will my commission take?
Turnaround times vary, but I have a strict 60 day deadline policy. If you do not receive your commission within 60 days you may ask for a full refund - the hard deadline is generally listed on the invoice terms. Exceptions are made if the commission isn't paid off by time of the deadline, or if an excessive amount of fixes are delaying the commission's completion time. Icons and particularly small commissions may be given a tighter deadline at my discretion - for example, if work is slow and you're near the top of the list, I may say "this icon will be done in 7 days," and put that as the invoice's hard deadline.
My commission idea doesn't match your catalog/I want an art style you haven't done before.
That's not a problem! I can give you a quote for any ideas you have, and there is no obligation to follow through with the commission. Ask anytime, otherwise I wouldn't have been able to do commissions like this one!
Can you print and ship my digital halfbody as a badge?
Sure! Badge shipping costs are 5$ anywhere in the US, and 15$ internationally. They come laminated with a badge clip. ^v^
Can I repost your art? Where should I credit you?
You can repost any commissions I do for you, that's why I send lower resolution files alongside the chunky ones. You can credit me here as @Phoenix-of-Starlight, on Telegram (phoenixofstarlight), or simply say "Art by Phoenix Baldwin" if you'd like. :) Credit isn't necessary but it's hugely appreciated!<3
Where do you take payments?
I send invoices through PayPal - be prepared to give me an e-mail to send it to when paying. Please do *not* send commission money directly to my PayPal or through the Shinies system - that's only for tips! :P
Do you send WIPs? Can I ask for changes?
Yes, I want you to be happy with the work you get! With the exception of some flatcolor styles, most commissions have a sketch, lines, flatcolor, and shading update where changes can be made if needed. If something looks off with the commission, tell me as early as possible while the change is easy to make. Big changes in the commission's later stages may incur extra charges.
Can I ask for updates?
You can! It's rare for me to go more than two weeks without updating. If you're getting worried, it's okay to check in! Even if a stage isn't finished yet, I'll often show progress or give some info for why there's been a delay. I do encourage checking the queue first though! Sometimes it's just because you're in the back of the queue. The one thing I ask is that you not make a habit of daily check-ins! I'm usually working on a lot of different projects at once, and the interruptions can slow me down if they get to be too frequent.
There's too many options. >.>
I actually agree LOL. I'm sorry for the clutter! I've heard choice paralysis complaints more than once now. Here's a simplified price sheet with just the basics! - https://www.furaffinity.net/view/53840574/
Wait, do I see writing commissions?
Yeah actually! Trying something new. Right now I'm offering character backstory/personality writeups at a rate of $5 per ~250 words. No clue how that'll go yet but I'm following the advice of my mentor and hoping to get some writing practice in. :)
What if I don't like my commission?
You can ask for a full refund before the sketch stage is approved, if for example, the piece seems wildly off from what you had in mind. Once the sketch is approved, however, I ask that you simply ask for fixes as needed. Unless a commission fails to meet its deadline, asking for a refund on approved, in-progress, or finished art puts me in a tough position! I'm pretty flexible, so if you need to make a LOT of changes on an early-stage commission, that's okay too!
Do you take payment plans?
Payment Plans are totally okay for any commission over $80, just ask if you need more time and we'll work something out. I prefer not to break down art commissions into more than 4 payments and will not finish art until it's fully paid for, as a heads up!
Can I pay less? :3
I can at times adjust to someone's budget. You can propose an alternate price, and if the project sounds doable at your budget, I'll let you know! Don't be surprised if I can't accept if your budget is far under what I charge, especially if you're asking for a big project, and I'm less likely to accept a price cut when my queue is busy already.
I want my commission NOW!
Rush Order Policy - These can be ordered even when I am closed, and become top priority until their completion.
Need it in 30 days - 20$ rush fee
Need it in 14 days - 50$ rush fee
Need it in 7 days - 150$ rush fee
Need it within 24 hours - 300$ rush fee (Must be able to respond to updates quickly, else waive fixes.)
You probably will not need this for an icon, or halfbody. You can let me know if a smaller commission is under a tight deadline, I'll usually be able to get it done. But if you want me to do a Character Kickstarter bundle and turn out a reference sheet, halfbody, and 10 stickers, in a week? That's a rush order. Want a pack of 3 Animated Telegram stickers of your fancy dragon character, in a day? That's a rush order!
I bought an adopt. What can I do with it?
As long as the original art files are unaltered, you can do pretty much whatever you want! Even if you change the design of the character, as long as the character is still "recognizable" in some way, you'll receive a 10% discount for all future commissions featuring that character. You can resell it, change the design around, change personality, name and etc.! Tis yours, have fun with it!
What do you draw the best?
I've developed a few specialties over the years! For subject matter, I'm especially strong at drawing birds, feral mammals, and humans. I also specialize in style development and character design - which means I'm pretty good at taking your characters and drawing them in the styles of various shows or movies. Finally, I'm a trained animator. Animation from me is time consuming, but I always ensure it's to the highest quality I can offer. ^^
What do you draw the worst?
I'm not especially experienced at drawing complex mechs, three-point-perspective environments. or gore. These are all things I'm comfortable drawing, but I'm not a pro at them! Other artists can probably offer you better versions of these things. :)
What do you NOT draw?
I don't draw explicit sexual content, including overtly sexual expressions or phrases. I don't draw fetish/kink art, although some of the less extreme ones can be fine. I highly prefer not to depict drug use, and I will not include any form of hate speech in my work. Part of this is for my own comfort, but I'm also a children's book author-illustrator. Some things just aren't meant to mix lol.
Please inquire via notes or Telegram (PhoenixofStarlight) if you have any questions!
