IT'S BEEN 8 WEEKS
WHAT A NIGHTMARE
I actually got a call last Friday that my laptop was repaired and ready for pickup in-store so I head in
the girl behind the counter is so excited to have it back like shes been there several times when ive inquired about the repair status because Solvup NEVER UPDATED THE CASE FILE and NEVER CONTACTED ME THEMSELVES
the worst part is that Solvup, whos the company behind the warranty repair and finds an actual repairer to send the thing off to, gave me a survey to fill out about their communication, repair quality, and time taken.
so the JBHiFi staff were great, and the repair was great, but everything else was shit and i made sure they damn well heard that from me

anyway I pick up the laptop (i touch it with my hands. i confirm that it is real and not a myth. a cryptid) and I look at the form. check this shit out. this is beautiful. and by beautiful I mean all my emotions have fled my body and I am an empty shell now
"Replaced the fan, heat-sink, wi-fi NIC, wi-fi cable and HDD. Reimaged with Windows 10 and activated it and updated. BIOS updated. Free antivirus firewall loaded but customer has to load the paid one for complete protection. Office 2016 loaded, customer has to activate it to use it."
oh boy! i can't wait to Replace Office 2016 With Free Software
anyway I sent the laptop back because they didnt ask permission to install an entirely new goddamn OS on my work computer so im still sittin around crying into the void
the poor girl at JB was still there when I brought it back. she saw me with the laptop. she gave me the saddest 'nooooo...' bc she knew it was my work computer and i probably looked so dead inside

my only experience with computer repair was a 3-week-long dealie so I was anticipating something similar, but.. apparently not :T they had to order parts from overseas which was an extra two weeks for shipping bc gotdamn new zealand
At least the store warranty was for two years, and I have extended warranty for another two years after that, so I'm covered there
but yeah the entire situation is Gross with any warranty repairs eugh

are you making them restore ur old os and shit tho like? how long... would that even take, that's surely not a day's work even???
it's like ~4 hours of install time and over a week of processing and paperwork, apparently. I haven't heard back yet and it's been 6 days
win8 isn't great but i don't have to jump through a bunch of hoops to make it functional on top of reinstalling everything i own
You think automatic Windows update was bad on older versions... Windows 10 automatic update would enable itself from being disable on its own and start up my computer from hibernation and restart it even though I kept disabling automatic updates. That really tilted me. c.c I lost a lot of work to that. So glad I wiped my machine of it and installed 7.
