[Rant] The unmentioned cost of being of a "True Fan"...

TL:DR - $6 per month doesn't sound like much... until you have 100+ people asking for that much. #Theydidthemath

So... a recent journal I saw effectively made the following statement: I'm changing business models, and if you unfollow me, you're not a fan.
There's also a lot of articles about what it is to be a 'true fan', supporting a creator with all their endeavors.
Most discussions of said business model tend to go to artists getting paid for their work (which I totally agree with). However, I've seen a few comments that basically say "You can afford this, and if you can't, you're cheap" or various derivatives. So... that got me to thinking:
How much, on average, would it cost me to be a 'true fan' per month for everyone using said model?
Whelp... as part of a cleanup, I went through my entire watch list to figure this out. The number I got was:
More than $6...
More than an Adobe CC subscription ($50)...
More than the average 2016 car payment ($479)...
More than a fully shaded + background commission from a certain artist ($700)...
Your number will likely vary, but, based on my list classifications, I got... $746 per month...
Oh yes... I'm absolutely a cheap person cause I can totally afford that...

Also, did you ever get that hot cocoa upgrade installed? ^^;
but yeah with "fan" cost estimations, i'm watching 3.4k and about 10% of those are empty due to time/life. with price of 1 to 10 $, averaging the 6$ your journal used, i'd be spending 19,000$ ish =p, owch thats a year of paycheck for certain people.
However... my numbers are mine. Yours would likely be different. However, I think the average would be nowhere near that amount.
To elaborate on mine; of the ~1800 people I watch, 17.5% use Patreon. Of that, it's split 60/40 between tip jar / paywall. The number I quoted was paywall only.
If applied to your list using my numbers:
((3500 * .175) * .4) * 6 = $1482
... which is more than average apartment rent.
Yeah... I'm sure you can totally afford that. If you can't then you're cheap and not a true fan of their works... /s
