what are your adopt struggles?

I'm kind of sleep deprived which is making me chatty! I was thinking about this earlier and thought it'd be fun to hear other people's thoughts
basically what I want to know is, when designing adopts what do you struggle most with?
for me personally, I find it hard to design things outside of my comfort zone. when designing something I personally wouldn't use as a character I tend to struggle with confidence issues, thinking no one will buy it?
for example I'm not too big on horror/gore/more unconventional designs. I think they can be really creative but aren't something that immediately springs to mind when coming up with new concepts... so when I do attempt something in that style I tend to worry no one will be interested in it, or I'm doing a bad job somehow. making that batch of halloween rosales was hard for me because of that!!
I think the reason I struggle with it a lot too is I tend to be quite self indulgent with my adopts, I want to enjoy designing it and hope it reflects in the finished result, so their owner can feel I've put effort into it. it's something super important to me as an adopt artist! and while I did have a lot of fun with the halloween designs I mentioned, I was a bit worried too... I think when it comes to unconventional stuff I'm also like "will people think this is too weird?"
at the same time I also learned a lot while designing them, and did become a little more confident in trying new themes!
I also lack confidence in my designs, something not selling well can be really discouraging to me. but I try and focus on enjoying the process and hopefully making a new owner happy! I think everyone struggles w/confidence though haha (and another thing I struggle a lot with is pricing orz)
so anyway! like I said, I'd love to know your own experiences regarding this. do you struggle with palettes, clothing, etc? or maybe even similar problems to me?
(I should also say that adopts have been on my mind a lot this week, I'm hoping to breathe life back into my species as soon as my schedule allows me to because I'm honestly bursting with ideas right now! it's a nice feeling as I kind of lost interest for a while... I'm hoping to get a batch up eventually that'll allow me to afford a sub for my adopt account/rosales group so they can be pretty again, maybe even open a discord group or something? I'm also currently trying to revamp my style/presentation so hopefully you guys like the results haha!)

My tastes also ten to be pretty different from what a lot of people like, so I run into the same problem as you of having to design something I don't personally find all that pleasing, but that would sell better. It's rough.
BUT WHEN I DO GOOD ONES IT'S SO EXCITING.... also finding new motifs and stuff for markings i don't know??? How a lot of super talented adopt artsits do it???? but i aspire to be that strong one day
I FEEL YOU ON MARKINGS THOUGH, I super admire people who can do those complex markings... one day we'll be strong enough !!
