I actually became far too depressed with using grindr or growler mostly because each time I spoke with people there, I just became more and more empty with all the sex talk and one tracked minds. I felt so dead inside whenever I thought about ever using those apps, so I just eventually gave up on all of those apps and stopped talking to people online in general. It actually helps your mood when you dont have any real friends to talk to anymore (ESPECIALLY those old "friends" who dont even make the effort to talk back to you even though you've wasted so much time chatting with them in the past)
