A question for anyone who's worked with cast resin

Hi Hi all
as some folks might know I'm trying to rebuild my death of rats scythe
after a second attempt in hot glue failed It was decided clear cast resin would be a better solution
However I've been wondering about something and I was hopping some folks might be able to help me with a few questions.
My mold for the scythe blade is a rigid plastic and I'm sure that the resin will bod to it making it pretty much impossible to remove so I was wondering about easy ways to release the blade from the mold. one of my ideas was to use wax A layer of melted wax on the edge of the mold would keep it from bonding to the mold and allow me to round and shape the edges of the blades into the correct shapes. I could then pour a layer of wax ontop of the mold after the resin has set so that it will fully cure
I figure hot water or a blow dryer would help me strip off the wax easy.
So does anyone know if this would work?

You've got sort of the right idea. The material you want is called 'Mold release'.

OP
yeah the sites that sell the resin sell mold release but how does that work would I have to apply it to the mold before use? or would I use it on the finished blade after its set. would it be able to strip awayfrom the hard plastic? and would melted wax still be a good solution to making the blade seem edged?

You use it for both! You use it on your original to get it out of the mold, unless you're attempting a lost-wax casting. Then, you coat your mold to keep your copies from sticking. Wax is probably a bad idea as a mold release. The heat of the curing resin itself is likely to play havoc with it.

Well, I know that usually you put some fabric in the mold so the resin won,t tstick to the mold but I dunno exactly how it works, so I'll ask someone who knows.
