i finally figured out bluebell’s canon
there’s multiple bluebells
since bluebell was a single slime who met merry weather, who taught her that life is fungible and an individual is just one expression of the same archetype. that everyone is deep down the same, living out the same story, and people are fungible.
so bluebell took that to heart after she ate merry and partially assumed her identity
merry was ok with death because she thought her story was the same as so many other deer. that there was no point to her living out her life, since other deer like her had already lived out such similar lives, and would continue to do so. any dreams she had unfulfilled, some other deer would fulfill it. it didn’t matter if it was her or not. life is fungible
so bluebell divided multiple times, and now there’s a bunch wandering around. one in the nexus interdimensional city, one in a dungeon, just all over the place.
they all have deer skeletons. the original merry skeleton is long gone, but that’s ok
merry’s entire point is she was fungible with any other deer
so any deer skeleton is basically merry
just like how every bluebell is bluebell
if you are friends with a bluebell and are going to meet another, the first bluebell can give you a slime data packet of her memories of you
you can give it to the new bluebell and she’ll download the other bluebell’s memories of you off of it and bam. suddenly this new bluebell remembers your entire friendship

lots of slimes are probably just simple mindless things copying what they've seen of people to trick them into coming close enough for an ambush
bluebell has the advantage of having spent decades being socialized
at least for bluebell's kind of slimes they're not really sapient, they're like chatbots that learn from other people. bluebell's just been around so terribly long she's got enough imprinted behavior to go off of she's become effectively a fully fledged person
and then got big and divided into split bluebells so there's several of em running around now
basically the difference between a porn spam chatbot is a normal slime, cleverbot is an advanced slime, and bluebell is the one that can pass the turing test and then there's copies of her

You've said they aren't really sapient, so I also wonder if the illusion would eventually break down if you had two bluebells talking long enough.
bluebell can pass the turing test really, really, really well. two bluebells might get stuck in a loop but they probably have like, they wouldn't "recognize" that and stop it, but that's what would happen
you could probably if you really tried mess with a bluebell to get it expressing contradicting opinions in sequence or something like that though
