Not keeping it stocked enough i guess? Nintendo has a bad track record with that in recent years.

They have a very nasty habit of always shipping limited units regardless of the huge demands. It happened here, it happened with the amiibos, the Wii suffered from it, etc etc.

switch hasn't been as bad. at least not in my area, the target i work at has gotten at least 5 or 6 switch's every week. Meanwhile after Christmas they didn't send us a single 3DS for over 2 months

Some people theorize that Nintendo is quietly shelving the 3DS to make way for the Switch since it's both a console and a handheld.

potentially, if anything they've kept the 2DS well stocked. It might also be they just have all factories focusing on switch at the moment
