So what can we....what DO we do?

Our new president is hell bent to completely cancel out all the environmental protections that are in place and would be put in place over the next years in order to please the industries and further line the pockets of his friends and himself. I am a grey muzzle fur and I live in a place that won't much be affected by his atrocious changes and appointments of environmental haters to high positions. (Yes, I'm talking about Scott Pruitt) and I have no family to worry about in the future but the family of man. That is enough for me though. I think mankind should continue. Trump's way says Fuck the next generation and those after. Let's get richer right now. I don't believe in that BS.
I think we NEED to resist...maybe even disobey...the federal government on the subject of environmentalism. Yes, I am a Californian, and many think we Californians are crazy....but I'll tell you something.... look at this http://www.slate.com/articles/healt.....t_without.html and tell me California isn't important to the US.
Okay I'm getting off subject but, really, what the hell do we do with and about a president who wants to poison our water, land and ourselves in the name of profit? And I haven't even mentioned all of his lying. Alternative facts my freakin' ass!!
So...Please don't just go nuclear and hateful on me if you don't agree with me. Lay out your own thoughts if yours are different from mine. I'd give a lot to be able to see what's happening in a positive light, but I just can't.
Thoughts? Opinions? Ideas?
But please, let's stay friendly....I am a friendly fur and don't like drama....okay?

Try googling the Keystone pipeline and see what you get. Also try googling 'tar sand oil'. You might be surprised with what you haven't been told.

The environmental impact illegal immigrants have on our national parks is finally being addressed.
Environment doesn't need humans/technology/civilization. Evrn if we fuck it up beyond our survival, life will go on, will evolve and adapt. It happened before us, will happen after.
Two, we cannot sustain the current civilization while going completely green. At the very least, to do so, we will need to switch to completely ascetic lifestyles. Consider this: all output of UK's nuclear power industry goes to communication and entertainment.
It's not just Trump or his actions. It's everything.
Moreover, if we do all we can, we will have to ditch most technology -- and roll back to iron age if not further.
If we keep only the necessary industries for sustaining life on the current level, we will have unemployment exceed 99%...
Time and Confusion is my fave of his....off that 1st album (and maybe only album, IDK).
I dig the lyric...
A bubble of blood
Shut from laughter
Circles death
Before and after........time into time.......
Heavy, dude!!!
(BTW he was not a little known act either. Quite popular in my crowd anyway... =p)
Yes......That was his only album...... I did not know That!
I know latter he became a Shrink! Imagine going to see him sbout your "Pyromania" problem.......
That is Deep! Draggy likey!
It wasn't that well known in my day, I heard it on the radio as a "Flash Back" cut and just Had to have it! I got the LP....trying to find it on disk.
Too bad I sold all my CDs when I recorded them to computer or I'd send it to ya. I could send you the files though if you wanted. On MP3.
Hell Yea, if it's not to much trouble.....
I've always loved that album. Have you listened to Time/Confusion yet and heard the lyric I quoted? That is one of my favorite songs on it! Heavenly creepy!
And a trivia question for you.....did you know his Drummer was the drummer for Emerson, Lake and Palmer? His last name is Palmer.....I forget his first. Oh, also did you know Jimmy Hendrix was supposed to play lead guitar for them? He had signed up with the group, did some rehearsal work but died One week Before they were to go to studio!
Dude, could you imagine what that would have sounded like? ♡
But personally......I would have Loved to hear what they came up with!
"When Emerson and Lake decided to form a new group, they initially approached drummer Mitch Mitchell who was at a loose end following the break-up of The Jimi Hendrix Experience. Mitchell suggested a jam session take place with himself, Lake, Emerson and Hendrix; though the session never took place, it caused the press to report rumours of a planned but abandoned supergroup named HELP, an acronym for "Hendrix Emerson Lake Palmer", which Lake debunked in 2012."
Also this: http://ultimateclassicrock.com/jimi.....n-lake-palmer/
So I guess it was just a rumor.
Funny thing is, while I know the name of Emerson, Lake and Palmer, I couldn't name a single song they did or say for sure that I'd even heard them except separately with other bands.
Mmmm....."Lucky Man" was their Biggest hit but "CarnEvil #9" was a Huge hit also.....that's all that comes to mind at the moment.
Maybe I'll look up some of their music and listen to it on amazon for fun.
Once you hear it, You'll recognize it!♡
It's an interesting group, No lead guitar! Only bass, drums and keyboard.
However, the busybodies who want to 'green' everything in sight just for the thrill of lording it over someone else...them, I got no use for.
What about coal? How do you feel about coal mining?
How do you feel about citizens being forced from their property for the purposes of making more swamps, sorry, "wetlands"?
How do you feel about farmers being unable to produce food because a slightly different breed of mouse has decided to take up residence in their fields?
Personally, THAT sort of bullying makes ME furious.
#2 I have heard nothing of citizens being moved to make wetlands. Can you show me any instance of this?
#3 That is so much BS. Urban legend at it's worst!
Bullying? Exactly where do you live that environmentalists bully you? Because they sure aren't bullying anyone here in California. We thrive on enviromentalism.

Well, yes, California. Enough said. :)
There is always another side to the story. But I live here and have maybe a small amount more actual information about these things than you.
Try and get the real info. You will probably be surprised.
Also take a look at what happened in the Owens Valley if you don't already know about it.

I cannot vouch for validity of the facts stated there, but it's a good starting point.
As for the oil.....if you ride through Texas, Arizona or Nevada you'll see Hundreds of oil rigs Not Working! Why? It's Not because the wells are dry! The U.S. has the Largest stock of raw oil in the ground currently in the World. It's because all the Fat Cats in DC and Exxon want to make More money by shipping Our oil overseas and having the Arab countries refine it for us, so that They don't have to pay people to work at Our Refinery's or deal with the pollution law's. I worked twelve years in the industry, I seen how it work's.
The fact of the matter is the world is driven by money and the Absolute Lust gor it!
Yep, you have a point. The news is all we have to go by and how do we know what is truth and what is not? Now look at this little vid by George Carlin.. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rsL6mKxtOlQ
Does it make you wonder? Or feel small? I know it does that to me.
I am pretty sure that humanity cannot survive as it is. We need to either drastically reduce our footprint (not really damn likely to happen) or transcend.
And if we do, we won't really need planets.
I think that would work, and be a viable way of saving the human race as a thinking species. Have you thought about the physical part of it though? We need to be physically able also. It is, after all, part of our genetics.
Fiction has cyborgs, augmentations, bioelectronic hybrids... I firmly believe that's a dead end. Waste of resources.
Like I said, I'm old, I expect to die in the next few years so really why should all this matter to me? I dunno. I just hate seeing the biodiversity of our planet dying off. The people being poisoned by their government. Stuff like that. I'm old. I'm just sad to see things going so badly.
As the example of a regulating mechanism, I can point to multiresistant pathogen strains emerging with alarming speed lately, some of which are already resistant to ALL known drug types.
... Except not much is done about it for a variety of reasons. Most of them rather idiotic.
I know.....I'm odd. A wierdo to many. But I see things as they might be, not necessarily as they will be. No one knows what will be. But I am afraid.
Anyone want to see me in a straightjaccket? Or am I not that far off??????
Did I give an impression of thinking humanity is doomed?
IDK.....but we ain't workin' too hard at makin' it live long either.....
Or am I misreading you?
Or a more local variation thereof for the Solar system.
Statistically, it's believed there have been multiple extinction events on the Earth since its formation, though humanity might end up being unique in actually creating our own. As things stand right now, I can't be too sad about that, the planet really would be better off without us.
We're a species that ignores those of us who have chosen to figure out the workings of our world and warn us about the damage we're causing to those workings, in favour of listening avidly to people who know nothing about it, whose only credentials come from the fact they were saying what others wanted us all to hear.
And we defend those people as if their word somehow came from god himself. (Considering humanity's new god is money, then it probably does!)
We're a species that concentrates its entire efforts, above all other concerns, on the gathering of little pieces of paper and metal, so we can hand them all over to other people who then get to decide that, if we've given them enough, we can live a little bit longer on this planet.
And we believe that people who have more of these bits of paper and metal are somehow superior to the rest of us, enough that we'll listen to what they say and defend them to the death against anyone who might even have the audacity to think they could be wrong.
And we see those who have failed to gather enough of these bits of paper and metal as inferior beings who have "wasted their lives" and therefore should be left to die on the streets without the necessities of life the rest of us take for granted.
(Yep, think it over, look at the big picture. This is human "civilisation" behind the facade. (quote marks for sarcasm)).
So yeah, looking at the big picture, we've turned ourselves into an evolutionary dead end, due to listening to the honeyed words of those few who set themselves to live in luxury at the expense of everyone else and somehow not being able to see the situation for what it is.
Not enough of us care about changing that path now, despite countless warnings over the years. And I really believe we've gone beyond the point of no return now. The one thing that scares me now is the future, and I really hope I'm not around to see it.
TL:DR - Humanity (at least the majority of it) is just too stupid and apathetic to survive.
Sorry if this sounds negative, but it's been building up for years and I had to say it somewhere. Reading some of the comments above to what anyone else would believe is an intelligent post, I suppose something just snapped.
Note to the trolls out there. Don't bother. I've said all I need to say, and won't be replying further to this, just to be dragged into an argument that most likely consists of little more than insults.
Environmental disasters are going to happen with or without the EPA. It couldn't stop Flint or Deepwater from happening. But it does help with resolving these situations when they occur. Without a government agency to step in, I'm pretty sure the people of Flint would have torched their government offices. If that's what US officials want to go back to then good luck to them I guess.
"Mountaintop removal takes place primarily in eastern Kentucky, southern West Virginia, southwestern Virginia, and eastern Tennessee. A study in 2009 showed that nearly 1.2 million acres to date had been surface mined for coal, and more than 500 mountains destroyed by mountaintop removal coal mining." And that says nothing about the people affected by the pollution. Everything runs downhill, ya know.
I just hope the pendulum swings far to the other side next time!
What do you expect from a Business Man?
I Fully Agree with you Bunny, but when you've got a Business Man at the helm, Business Comes First....Everything else is second!
As I said elsewhere on this post, the oil exploration is completely unnecessary. We (the U.S.) set on the Largest stock of oil in the world! Only Washington and Exxon don't want to use it because there's too much money to be made by having our oil refined overseas and from buying overseas oil, versus employing Thousands of people to run Our Refinery's we have here and re-opening Our oil fields that are already scattered all over the US!
It's all about the Money and How much the Fat Cat's can pocket!
I think people wanted Change. Not Hillary who would have just brought More of the same we've had for the last eight year's.
Trump is Certainly Not my First Choice, but I do like him more than Clinton. Though Personally I think None of them would have been any better.....just different.
Coal is dying, cheap natural gas has dug its grave. Easing regulations won't help, the 'war on coal' is being fought in the boardroom and the meeting. The new freedom those companies have got will not save them. And it won't help anyone either; automation has eliminated the blue-collar job and they're not coming back, over the next few years people will realize this as the old excuses are rendered null and void. (Ironically the solar and wind industries are picking up a lot of ex-miners, who are often in a good position to become techs.) This will limit the destruction since what he, and many others, think are repressed, powerful industries are dying.
On the bad side, which is also a good for those distant, people are going to find out anew WHY you have a lot of government departments. When something works well it often becomes invisible and taken for granted. People begin to think it does nothing. (See: Vaccinations) When it is taken away often there is a rude awakening. I suspect the government is in for a lot over the next few years. There was a close brush with healthcare, many now understand it's trickier than it seems. With the EPA I expect something similar will happen. There will be a disaster and people will stand amidst the poisoned water and destruction ask 'Why did this happen?' 'Who will help us?' and there will be a big hole where the EPA used to be and people will understand why it was there.
I see the next four years as a steep learning curve for all those who have grown complacent. It was a wise man who said 'Give a man enough rope and he'll hang himself.' This holds true for governments too.
