I have an older Dell Studio laptop. Buuuut, it's hard drive is failing and it has this weird graphical bug where window headers and sometimes text will be garbled. It is, however, a pretty solid arting computer; I got it from my sister who used it exclusively for art.

Do you know what the exact model is? :) I actually have a 3TB external I could use if the hard drive is too messed up.

If the drive is messed up, it's not too expensive to get it replaced. You can grab a decent sized SSD for cheap.

If you are interested in looking around for one, and you don't use Manga Studio/Clip Studio Paint (and I'm p. sure you use mostly SAI...?), this old Asus Eee Slate (Ep 121) is actually a really nice machine for art. It pre-dates the Microsoft Surface, to give you an idea of age (I've had this one for about 4 and a half years or so.)

I've been using it as my only computer for a month now, and other than it getting pissy because I'm treating it as I do my gaming rig, it's really been great for doodling, and even the completed pieces I've done in SAI.

There's some kind of tablet pen incompatibility, as of my last check some year+ back, with MS/CSP and the Ep 121 not getting along, and I don't have Photoshop loaded on here, so I don't know how it would do with that... But as a 5 yo machine that's only being used for art when I have my gaming PC, it gets the job done.

Thank you for the suggestion! I think I've found something for now, but I'll definitely keep that one in mind for when I want to doodle around in random places. XD

If you plan on using it outdoors or in well-lit areas, make sure the brightness and reflectiveness of the screen is appropriate. The 13HDs are a tad bulky and a bit clunky compared to the newer line, so a good touchscreen laptop or a laptop w/ bamboo/intuos would probably be a better option. :3

Thanks for your advice! I usually only art in areas that are light controlled. My most common place of work actually has dimmer switches on the lights and really good light blocking curtains so I can usually make it exactly how light I need it!

If I do ever work outside it'll probably just be sketches, something easy to readjust the color of when I get back in the house. ^^

The laptop I really want is a touch screen, and I have an intuos 3 and intuos 4, so I have a setup that works very well for me. For now,  confu5ed has offered me a laptop I think will work very well for what I need, so I'm set with that for now!
And actually, I would prefer a laptop to any sort of screen tablet in the first place. I mostly put cintiq [should have put screen tablet, but went with brand recognition for brevity] on there in case someone had one they'd sell me for less than I can get a laptop.
