If you've not really been exposed to TED Talks, the sarcasm may not be as potent, but the actual message of this particular one is ... rather poignant. Sad but mainly true.
Many of our more advanced listening classes use TED Talks for listening practice and activities, so I've listened to a good deal of them too. There are quite a few that are pretentious and very poorly constructed though, so you have to be careful. The Onion Talks ... I think they're probably making more social points. The Social Media one, I feel is priceless though
Utilizing satire to paint a very honest picture of what really happens at yet another now-corrupt gathering. The second Dark Ages is just around the corner. Hope you kids are ready.
I'm a teacher, and I SORELY want to have a day where no student is allowed to bring or use their smart phones ... for just one day. I'm sure that very few of them would be able to function. That's sad
I just managed to get my own phone back on (was locked out of it for two weeks). I managed to survive for two weeks without it. Didn't start to vibrate uncontrollably due to withdrawal LOL. I am a god :P
I experienced a smartphone downtime period of 9 months and did just fine as well. so many people don't realize everything they do on the phones is still available on PCs. Its just more convenient.
I think maybe one step further even. So many people don't realize that we existed for centuries without smart phones, and even computers. Now you have a generation of young people who can't be bothered to spell something because spell-check will do it for them, and it's just easier to use abbreviations and expect everyone else to know what they all mean.
I still don't know what smh is supposed to mean LOL. But I guess I am getting away from the original topic now
It's funny and sad how true this particular satire is. I'd even go so far to say that the "robots" are actual people who like and do things based on how their Twitter friends like these posts. :3
