There's a guy that sells them at the flea market near me and has one hanging up. I just can't get behind telling him, or any seller for that matter, to remove it. The venue already knows he's doing it so its really not something worth getting up in arms about. Nazi flag next to the dildos, guns, knives, skulls, churros and cell phone cases. Its a flea market...waddya want?

While I don't stand behind anything Nazi-related, it's his right to sell that stuff. Who knows, he might be a history collector trying to sell stuff to other collectors. I understand that you're upset about it (and I would be too), but that's still their right to sell that kind of stuff.

because if you had, you'd see i very clearly ask people not to request their right to sell be restricted. just that their literal nazi flag not be openly displayed at the entrance of the flea market.

I do get selling for historical reasons buuttt Lets be honest, they are clearly not doing it coz of that! I dont get why its so hard to apologize when you offend someone or hell have something CLEARLY use as hate in the open.....some people.

In my opinion, the only real way we're ever going to progress as a species culturally is to reject ideologies that condone oppression and hatred against people based on some facet of their identity. Even though in America people are allowed to express their ideas freely, and they're legally allowed to sell and display such hurtful imagery, that does not mean we have to stand by and accept that they're doing that.

While it wouldn't be right to just kick over the stand and burn the nazi flags, that does not mean we cannot voice our opinions and make it known that even though someone might believe in those ideals, the general public at large do not, and they do not think it's acceptable to spread those ideologies publicly.

It might seem like an insignificant thing, but just allow the vendor to display the flag is indirectly supporting them. My tumblr doesn't have much of a following but I'll reblog anyway and do what I can to help!

exactly. the display of the flag isn't just saying 'hey we sell ww2 things' - they literally have a sign for that. the flag is saying 'we love nazi shit'

there's only one type of person who genuinely loves to buy, sell, trade and talk nazi shit.
nazis.
that's who they attract, that's who they sell to, and that's a message they're trying to spread to literally everyone who comes past their table.

It's such a slippery slope to say "I don't like this thing. Get rid of it." This new culture of getting deeply offended and taking steps to force others to do what you want is dangerous and quite honest, petulant. I see and hear things that hurt me everyday, but that's on me. I don't need to go around making petitions and stuff. The only true way we will progress as a species is to stop getting so up tight about things that actually do not matter one bit. In the grand scheme of things is NOT fussing about a Nazi flag the same as herding people into a gas chamber yourself? Nope. One is not supporting or condemning anything by just going on with one's own damn life like a rational adult.

That being said, the guy proudly displaying a fucking Nazi flag of all things HAS to know that it will rub people the wrong way. I'd wager he thinks he's giving a finger to THE MAN.
I'm in the South, flying a certain flag down here is always a topic of debate and I've seen the push back on both sides when grown ass people can't just accept that not everything has to please everybody. It's a meme and all but most people would really live happier lives if they just learned to Deal With It™.

I read it. I don't see where it addresses anything I'm talking about. I even said that the guys knows that flying that flag is offensive and he just doesn't give a shit. So getting in his face with righteous indignation achieves nothing. And, you know what, being a Nazi isn't illegal. Selling Nazi stuff isn't illegal. Displaying Nazi stuff isn't illegal. You could arrange a Nazi parade and march down the street burning an American flag and it would be totally legal. That's the price of living in this country, you have to see things you don't want to see. He isn't ACTUALLY hurting anybody.

And like I said, flea markets are trashy. You're going to a flea market expecting it to be a safe space and that just won't happen. Buy a pot leaf t-shirt, a few bootleg dvds and just go on with your day. You are trying to meddle with this guy's affairs because you feel entitled to do so and that just seems like an over reaction to me. That's all.

additionally antisemitic incidents including hate crimes are up 86% since the start of 2017 so. it -is- actually hurting people to encourage folks to be open about their antisemitism.

Lord so i forgot it was a lady, point stands. This is not a new issue. This is a common source of butt hurt at flea markets all over the country since forever. If it isn't Nazi paraphernalia its Confederate shit. It goes on and on.
Its up to the venue to allow it or not and if they do cater to the complaints then where does it end? Every single person who walks through these places gets to get offended and then dictate what is being displayed? Don't you see how stepping on free speech like that is problematic?

And get real, over 2,000 of the antisemitic threats this year were perpetrated by an Israeli-American Jew. Doubt he was very inspired by a Nazi flag at a flea market.

This vender literally isn't hurting anybody. Be realistic. The person is a dick and you've already brought your grievance to them. Strong arming them to conform to your liking just seems a bit fascist to me and that is beautify ironic.
